Official and unofficial visits have been taken, countless phone calls and text messages have been exchanged, and 21 offers have been handed over – Devin Collier (5-11, 200) is ready to announce his commitment. The Lee County (Leesburg, Ga.) three-star safety announced on Saturday that come Aug. 5, he is shutting down his recruiting process.

The journey to find that next level fit was not taken lightly. This offseason, Collier visited Florida State, Memphis, Florida A&M, Georgia Tech, Troy, and South Florida.

On June 23, the Georgia talent officially visited Duke. Over the weekend Georgia Southern brought him to campus.

“That was great,” Collier said. “They have a new coaching staff; their coaches are great. It feels good down there. Statesboro is a great city. The recruiting class they are bringing in is good too.”

In no order, Collier shared his five contending schools for his commitment, “South Florida, Duke, Minnesota, Memphis, and Georgia Southern.”

Collier gave insight into his thoughts on each squad.

South Florida: “USF, it feels great there; down there in Florida, on the beach, and in a good city (Tampa). I love coach Chad Creamer (OLB); he is a great coach. One of my old teammates, one of my homeboys just committed there. With USF, it is a family thing. It is cool down there.”

Duke: “The Blue Devils, they are great. Duke has a great coaching staff, and they love me. I can’t complain about it. It is pretty cool.”

Minnesota: “Minneapolis is a big city. There are great things going on up there, and Minnesota is a great school.”

Memphis: “With Memphis, it is like a family; my cousin Isaac Bruce went there. Visiting Memphis was a great experience. They have great coaches, and it feels like family. I love them.”

Georgia Southern: “That was a great experience this weekend. They were great. Georgia Southern has a great staff. Coach (Darius) Eubanks brought me in, he let me know that I am the No. 1 nickelback on their board. When I was there, it felt like family. The whole recruiting class was there; they loved me, and I love them too.”

Asked what his final decision will come down to before making his commitment, Collier replied, “Being a part of something that is building. I want to be a part of the building process. The recruiting class that we have, I want to make it better and help change the school.”
