The Tide has continued to roll through the state of Mississippi throughout the 2016 recruiting process landing their second Magnolia State recruit in two days when offensive lineman Scott Lashley sided with Alabama.

The West Point High School star had over 20 scholarship offers but was an important target for Mississippi State. The 6’6”, 300 pound, talent took an official visit to MSU on Jan. 15 followed by Alabama on Jan. 22, and then ended the process heading to Baton Rouge to see LSU on Jan. 29.

Other SEC teams Alabama fended off for Lashley’s commitment includes Auburn, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Ole Miss, Tennessee, and South Carolina.

Alabama now has 18 verbal commitments with three coming out of Mississippi. The Tide has pulled 4-star defensive tackle Raekwon Davis, cornerback Nigel Knott on Monday, and now Lashley. In January, Davis has waffled back-and-forth between Alabama and MSU, and then back to Alabama.

The miss on Davis, Knott, and Lashley quickly narrows the scope of a big recruiting class for the Bulldogs one year after winning the state. The top two uncommitted in-state recruits left on the board are 5-star defensive end Jeffery Simmons and 4-star wide receiver A.J. Brown. MSU could help their own cause if they can land 3-star recruits Daniel Crowell, wide receiver, and Kobe Jones, defensive tackle.
