Alabama Flips Georgia 4-Star RB Commit B.J. Emmons

Written by Ryan Wright

The rich got a little bit richer on Monday when Freedom High School star running back B.J. Emmons verbally committed to the University of Alabama.

Emmons helped the Patriots to a 10-1-1 record in 2014 that included a first round 50-49 North Carolina High School Playoffs loss to East Rowan. Along the way Emmons rushed for 2,346 yards with 38 touchdowns on 201 carries becoming one of the top running backs in the 2016 recruiting class.

An odd mix of offers came down the pipeline with Florida, Virginia Tech, Charlotte, West Virginia and in-state Division-I programs North Carolina, N.C. State extending scholarships.

The 4-star talent committed to the Georgia Bulldogs on Dec. 1 marking a path to a “Running Back U” program. All things changed on June 11 when the 5’10”, 230 pound, back de-committed from the Bulldogs narrowing down his list of offers to Alabama and Tennessee.

Both Tennessee and Alabama hosted Emmons on several unofficial visits during the offseason giving the impression of a long recruiting battle between the two SEC programs. Emmons indicated that he was not going to verbally commit to another school until February 2016. All things changed at 12:29 p.m. ET when Emmons posted the following:

Alabama now has 18 verbal commitments to their 2016 recruiting class. Emmons is the only running back committed to Alabama. Head coach Nick Saban and staff have landed nine 4-star players and one 5-star recruit, offensive lineman Jonah Williams (Folsom, CA).
