Progress on the field for Class of 2017 linebacker Shahid Reece is coming along quickly. The junior is already a second-year starter playing against some of the top competition in the state of Louisiana for one of the top ranked teams in the state, Archbishop Rummel.

The 6’0”, 215 pound, linebacker had 70 tackles, 10 tackles for a loss, and five sacks as a sophomore despite missing four games. The Raiders finished the 2014 season 11-1 with a run to the state championship game. The 2015 season is starting off the same way as last year ended with Rummel posting a 4-1 record with their lone loss being a 10-3 road defeat to New Jersey powerhouse Don Bosco Prep.

Reece entered the starting rotation four games in a year ago but started out the current season as a starter from Game 1 routinely posting 10 tackle games, multi-sack games, tackles for a loss, and getting key picks in coverage. Colleges are quickly warming up to Reece with more and more schools in touch including LSU, Missouri, Purdue, Oklahoma State, Penn, and Notre Dame among others with Tulane being is first offer. More offers along with recruiting stars and national attention is soon to follow.

The business card for all high school football players is their highlight reel, and Reece has a great one. Doing what linebackers do, he shows off his ability to stuff the run, rush the quarterback, closing speed on plays going away, and demonstrates the ability to quickly read defenses to get into position to make a play.
