The Sun Devils added verbal commitment No. 12 to their 2016 recruiting class on Thursday landing Dougladson Subtyl out of Victor Valley Community College.

Victor Valley is off to a 5-1 start to their season thanks in-part to a tough defense holding opponents to 18 points per game. The leader of the defense is their sophomore defensive end Subtyl. The 6’4”, 250 pound, athlete has a team-high 36 tackles, a team-high 13.5 sacks, and a team-high 16.5 tackles for a loss. Being a true disruptive force on defense, he also has three forced fumbles, a fumble recovery, and four pass breakups in just six games.

Most recruiting services have missed on Subtyl but college recruiters have not. Subtyl reports offers from Auburn, Baylor, Utah, Texas A&M, Washington, Nebraska, Boise State, Kansas State, Louisville, Washington State, Utah State, and Cal among many others.

Subtyl is originally from Haiti but moved to the Daytona Beach, Florida, area as a teen playing for Palm Coast in high school.

Arizona State gaining a verbal from Subtyl at this time was a bit of a surprise with official visits to Kansas State and Auburn set up. Subtyl’s visit with the Sun Devils for the Colorado game on Oct. 10 sealed the deal.

The Sun Devils recruiting efforts have been quiet since a busy May, June, and July. Since landing nine commits over the summer, ASU has picked up just two commitments, Kyle Williams on Aug. 31 and Subtyl on Wednesday.
