Arkansas high school football pulled in the national spotlight on Friday night with ESPNU picking up No. 1 ranked Pulaski Academy’s game in Little Rock against the visiting Parkway Panthers from Bossier City, Louisiana. The Bruins did not disappoint fans in the stands or watching the telecast putting on an offensive display winning 62-21.

The Bruins have kicked off the season with out of state wins against Oklahoma’s Page (59-21), Memphis’ Rideway (56-20), and now Parkway. The winning ways have launched PA up the MaxPreps’ standings now ranked No. 27 nationally before heading into 5A action against Arkansas competition. Teams like Sylvan Hills, Parkview, and McClellan get regular season shots to try to derail the state champs.

No. 2 ranked Greenwood improved to 3-0 with a 54-28 road win over Alama. Senior quarterback Connor Noland put on a show hitting 21-of-31 pass attempts for 226 yards with three touchdowns and ran nine times for 76 more yards.

One of the pleasant surprises to the 2017 season has been Conway. The Wampus Cats improved to 2-1 with a 35-16 win on the road over then- No. 9 Bentonville. The Cats dropped their season opener to Springdale but have chalked up back-to-back wins over ranked teams in Jonesboro and Bentonville. Southside and North Little Rock are next.

The game of the night belonged to No. 7 Catholic High against no. 11 Jonesboro. The game went down to the wire with Jonesboro pulling out the hard-fought home victory 28-26. Another exciting game pitting an in-state powerhouse against an out of state power was the Bishop Dunne vs. Fayetteville game. Bishop Dunne pulled out the win 34-33 in overtime dropping the Bulldogs to 1-2 on the year after a loss last week to Bryant. The Bulldogs look to break a two-game losing streak with archrival Bentonville coming to campus on Sept. 22.

One of the top performances of the night came from Class of 2018 quarterback Mason Schuker. Searcy’s gunslinger had 455 yards passing with five touchdowns hitting 14-of-29 attempts in a 51-17 win over Morrilton.

The odd final score of the night – Gentry 71, Greenland 76. A whole lot of offense in that game.
