Arkansas Lands Former USC QB Ricky Town over Florida

Written by Ryan Wright

On Friday former USC Trojans Class of 2015 signee Ricky Town landed at Arkansas per a report from ESPN’s Joe Schad.

Town was an early enrollee at USC out of St. Bonaventure High School in Ventura, California. The 6’4”, 210 pound, quarterback went through spring practices with the Trojans and the first two weeks of fall camp before announcing he was leaving the Trojans program on Sunday, Aug. 16. By Tuesday reports had Town reaching out to Arkansas and Florida as potential landing spots.

Wednesday night Town was in Fayetteville visiting the Arkansas campus before a reported trip to Gainesville to meet with the Florida staff.

Town was a one-time commit to Alabama before de-committing choosing to stay in-state. A logjam under center at USC with senior Cody Kessler and redshirt sophomore Max Browne is believed to be the reason behind Town’s departure from Los Angeles.

With Town now at Arkansas, another logjam of sorts is in place. Town will have to sit out the 2015 season due to transfer rules but when the job opens up in 2016 then junior Austin Allen, sophomore Rafe Peavey, and redshirt freshman Ty Storey will be in competition to replace departed third-year starter Brandon Allen. The stiff competition could lead to at least one quarterback transferring out of the program especially if 2016 commit Cole Kelley (Teurlings Catholic) continues with his pledge to join the Razorbacks.

In a unique twist for Arkansas, per Rivals position rankings the Hogs now have the No. 5 and No. 6 ranked pro-style quarterbacks in the 2015 class with Town and Storey respectively.
