Arkansas Picks Up Florida Safety Deon Edwards over South Carolina

Written by Ryan Wright

What could have turned into a long recruiting process for Lake Minneola High School safety Deon Edwards took a quick turn around on Wednesday when he verbally committed to the Arkansas Razorbacks.

Before the weekend Edwards had narrowed down his list of 15 reported offers to South Carolina, Missouri, Central Florida, and Arkansas announcing as things stand each would receive an official visit. At the beginning of June, Edwards made an unofficial visit to Arkansas and has sung the praises of defensive coordinator Robb Smith in his recruitment.

After announcing the four schools that would receive his official visits, the 6’1”, 190 pound, recruit made his first visit to South Carolina. Arkansas passed the big test landing the Florida native.

Edwards posted his announcement on Twitter writing, “I have officially committed to the university of Arkansas #WooPig #razorbacks got to love them can’t wait home.”

Other programs to offer Edwards included South Florida, N.C. State, Western Kentucky, Georgia Southern, UMass, Florida Atlantic, Temple, and Louisville among others.

Edwards is the second Arkansas recruit slotted to play in the secondary although Alexy Jean-Baptiste may be moved to outside linebacker once on campus.
