The new Arkansas Razorbacks coaching staff got a boost on the recruiting trail on Wednesday landing three-star 2020 running back Dominque Johnson from Crowley High School. The 6-1, 230-pound, back initially committed to the Missouri Tigers on June 2, 2019, and then decommitted on Dec. 18 after then- Missouri head coach Barry Odom was dismissed from the team. Odom was hired as the Razorbacks defensive coordinator two days prior to Johnson’s decommitment aiding in the change of heart.

Johnson had a breakout season as junior with Crowley High School carrying the rock 225 times for 1,109 yards with 15 touchdowns. Johnson’s Eagles squad posted a 9-2 record in 2019 against 5A Texas teams seeing their standout back rush for 1,300 yards with 25 total touchdowns sporting a 10 yard per carry average. Johnson is a power back who loves to lower his shoulder for the extra yards, but is also nimble and quick in space. His field vision and ability to cutback is not often seen with backs his size.

The Hogs landed Johnson over five other programs extending offers: Abilene Christian, Houston Baptist, Illinois State, Missouri, and Texas Southern. Johnson seemed like a done deal for Mizzou with the big-back posting, “There’s nothing like nights at the Zou” on Twitter three days before signing with Arkansas.

At the time of Johnson’s signing, the Razorbacks’ 2020 class has eight total commits, all three-star prospects, ranking 14th in the SEC, 119th in the nation.
