The Red Wolves picked up a big addition to their 2017 class on Friday with a verbal commitment from Georgia cornerback A.J. Cayetano.

Cayetano has been sharpening his defensive back skills with Mays High School against 6A Georgia competition. The 5-10, 180 pound, talent helped the Raiders to a 10-2 mark in 2015 playing all over the field. On offense, Cayetano ran the ball 36 times for 170 yards and returned two kickoffs 87 yards with a long of 60. On defense, No. 7 had 21 tackles, 10 solo, one tackles for a loss, and one pass defended.

The Raiders are off to a 6-1 start in 2016 with their two-way standout picking up where he left off. Cayetano has 11 carries for 124 yards with a score and six receptions covering 54 yards with another touchdown. Teams have tested Cayetano on special teams giving him five kick return attempts that were taken back 157 yards with a long of 51. On defense, the senior has 11 tackles, a fumble recovery, and a forced fumble.

Arkansas State was one of 14 schools to offer Cayetano. The Red Wolves won out over offers from Georgia State, Georgia Southern, Appalachian State, Southern Miss, Middle Tennessee State, Liberty, James Madison, Austin Peay, Kent State, Mercer, Western Carolina, Tulane, and Troy.

Cayetano posted his commitment on Twitter writing “Blessed and humbled” accompanied with a statement: “I’m very blessed for being able to be a recruited student athlete. After having a long talk with my family, friends, and coaches, I’ve finally decided to take my talents to Arkansas State University (ASU) #GoRedWolves.”

Arkansas State now has 13 verbal commitments to their 2017 class. Cayetano is the second prospect ranked as a three-star recruit ASU has secured and the second talent from Georgia joining offensive guard Sean Maginn.
