Good news on Christmas Day found its way to Auburn fans when in-state defensive tackle Alec Jackson committed to the Tigers.

Jackson is a great addition to the Tigers 2017 recruiting class capable of playing either defensive end or tackle at the next level. His recruitment shot through the roof with Jefferson Davis High School proving to be a top playmaker in the trenches against opposing 7A Alabama competition.

The Volunteers had a 5-6 season in 2016 but their 6-5, 270 pound, standout did not disappoint coming up with 69 tackles, 21 tackles for a loss, and 7.5 sacks during his senior campaign. Jackson had over 20 scholarship offers, pushing 30, with teams like Alabama, Florida, Miami, Texas, South Carolina, North Carolina, Ole Miss, Nebraska, and N.C. State being among the many hoping to gain his commitment.

The top two schools for the Montgomery area product were USC and Auburn. Jackson named USC a leader taking an official visit to Los Angeles on Nov. 26. Proximity, a good relationship with the staff, and growing up a Tigers fan helped Auburn landed their prized recruit. Jackson posted a statement regarding his commitment on Twitter:

Auburn has the No. 10 ranked recruiting class in the nation per 247Sports, No. 5 in the SEC. Rivals has the Tigers at No. 16 in the country but with only 17 commitments. Of the 17, eight are four-star prospects and eight are three-star talents.
