Baylor’s new coaching staff has put in extra work on the recruiting trail in January pushing a class that had just four players at the end of 2016 to 14 on Wednesday with the addition of safety Ashton Logan and linebacker Terrel Bernard.

Logan was an under the radar recruit flipped from Central Arkansas to the Bears. The 6-0.5, 203 pound safety had an impressive senior season helping Temple High School to a 12-4 record against Texas 5A talent. Logan was second on the Wildcats’ roster with 89 total tackles, 50 solo stops, while coming up with four interceptions getting a pick-six, and had six passes defended. Logan has the cover skills to drop down to cover the slot, can play in the box as a rover, and can stop the run and defend the pass from a cover-two.

Bernard was another flip for Baylor taking the linebacker away from the Houston Cougars. The La Porte standout had as a prolific of a high school career as any linebacker would want racking up 114 tackles as a sophomore, 148 as a junior, and 179 as a senior. Houston won the commitment of Bernard’s on June 3. After Tom Herman left Houston for Texas, an opening was there for Baylor. Other teams to offer the three-star talent included Colorado, Kansas State, Dartmouth, Texas Tech, Vanderbilt, SMU, Kansas, Northwestern, Texas State, and Washington.

Bernard posted his commitment statement on Twitter:

247Sports rates Baylor’s 2017 class No. 57 in the nation, No. 8 in the Big 12. Rivals sees the class differently at No. 67 in the country with one four-star recruit and 12 three-star players.
