Dreams do come true, even on the junior college gridiron for a strictly blocking fullback. Some inspirations come from the most unusual of places but former Los Angeles Valley College standout Sean Joseph Trimble helps redefine the sports application of “believing.”

Trimble took a long path from playing high school ball in California’s Inland Empire at Montclair to a next level opportunity. After being an All-League running back for the Cavaliers, Trimble started his collegiate career at Southwestern College (Chula Vista) before finding his way to Los Angeles Valley College. Once with the Monarchs, Trimble became a bell ringing 5-10, 230 pound, fullback blowing open holes for his tailbacks. The byproduct was a 9-1 overall record for the Monarchs making their first bowl game in some 20-plus years topping San Bernardino 42-27 in the Golden State Bowl to end the year.

Interest and offers started coming Trimble’s way, but the game of football has changed with a seemingly 50-50 split between pro-style offenses that utilize the fullback and spread offenses that have never heard of a fullback. When all was said and done, Midland (Nebraska), Jamestown University (North Dakota), and Mount Ida (Boston) had offered Trimble at a position that might be the toughest to garner a scholarship in the game of football.

All of that hard work and dedication to the game of football will officially payoff tomorrow when Trimble puts pen to paper during a signing ceremony extending his college playing days while receiving an education. In a Recruiting News Guru exclusive interview, I sat down with Trimble for some breaking news on the school that will get his faxed letter of intent on Wednesday, June 1.

Interview

Sean, before we start, congratulations on the exciting day tomorrow and the big news you are about to share.

“Thank you.”

So, which school are you committing to play for over the next two years?

“The Midland Warriors.”

What influenced you to commit to Midland?

“Coach (Jamie) Bisch, he is the recruiting coordinator and defensive coordinator for Midland. I liked how honest he kept it with me. We clicked right away. He made me feel real comfortable. He did not sweet talk me. Midland is in their second-year under new head coach Jeff Jamrog. I think Midland will be a great place to make a name for myself.”

You mentioned Coach Bisch kept everything honest with you. How did he lay everything out for you while recruiting you?

“He let me know how many fullbacks they have and what type of environment I would be in. Some coaches will tell you what you want to hear. He did not promise me playing time. He told me “come in and work you can have a spot at fullback.” He let me know they are still building. I liked his honesty.”

How did their offer take place?

“Actually, I had just got off work. Coach Bisch called me when I was on my way home. He let me know he had talked to Coach Jamrog. They liked my workout reel. They offered me on my way home from work. This was last Thursday. They called me around 6:00 (p.m.) and gave me a rundown about what will go on here in Omaha as one of their guys. He told me “I want to offer you a scholarship.”

Very exciting stuff. How did your commitment take place?

“I gave him a verbal the next day. I talked it over with my parents first. I decided between Jamestown, Mount Ida, and Midland. My mother is my go-to. I run everything past her first. Everything was right, they have my degree, and I liked the vibe I got from the coaches. I called them back the next day to tell them I want to be a Warrior for the next two years.”

What was the reaction of Coach Bisch when you committed?

“He was stoked. He was telling me he was proud to have a guy like me coming to their school. He was happy and excited. All the other coaches started texting me telling me congratulations.”

How did you process everything leading up to your commitment?

“I didn’t want to decide right on the spot. Two years seems like a short time but being outside my comfort zone, I needed to make sure it was the right move for me. The football part is easy, adjusting to your surroundings is the tough part.”

Knowing you are about to commit and actually making the call are two different things. How did you feel when you were in the process of committing to Midland? Were you nervous or excited when making the call?

“It was a mixture. A lot of joy because the process I went through from school in San Diego (Southwestern), finding out it was not the right fit and then going to LA Valley College. Coach Navarro (former LA Valley coach), he brought that dog out of me. He kept telling me “it has to happen now, enjoy the process, but it has to happen now.” He made sure I battled. Now I see what he was talking about. You have to fight for it. Having the coaching transition we had with Coach Tucker (new head coach), it was tough to adjust. Everything that has happened, everything I have worked for… Once I got on the phone and committed – there was relief.”

Sean Trimble warms up

When do you report to Midland?

“Coach Bisch will let me know within the next week. I’ll be there for the last half of the summer workouts. It’ll be within the next three weeks. We talked today some. They will let me know.”

Did Coach Bisch have any words of wisdom to help you get ready for the change?

“Not necessarily. We are dotting all the i’s and crossing all the t’s. I got my last transcripts in – all that stuff.”

Is there anything that you would like to share about this experience to others?

“A big thanks to all my brothers – all the guys I battled with at Los Angeles Valley. And – you have to believe.”

Sean, again, congratulations on your commitment to Midland and enjoy your signing ceremony tomorrow.

“Thank you.”
