As impressive as the offer sheet already is for Amaree Williams (6-5, 210), the long list of suitors is set to expand this fall. The highly active four-star weakside defensive end for The Benjamin School (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.) is expanding his role on the field this fall working as an outside linebacker with blueblood squads watching.

When college scouts turn on the film this season, they will see a different look from the Buccaneers and Williams.

“From last year, we ran a four-man front; we had a really solid end on the other side, but he transferred out,” Williams said. “This season we are running a three-man front; I will be a true outside linebacker this season.”

On changing up his defensive role, Williams added, “I am fine with it. I am being recruited to play that position. It is new, but I need to learn it. It is working in my direction.”

The new asks from the Buccaneers’ will give Williams different aspects of his game to fine tune.

“Being new to being a true outside linebacker, I will be playing more in man coverage,” Williams stated. “I am good at it; I have had two pick-sixes in the last two games I have played. It is still new to me even though I have had success at it. I want to perfect that. Also, you can never be too fast or too quick.”

More details to the early season success on the field was provided, “During our preseason, I had two big catches for 30-plus yards, and a pick-six dropping into coverage. This last game, I had a huge post across the middle for a 73-yard touchdown and an 85-yard pick-six. I found out today that I set the school record for longest interception return.”

A vision for the season and how to accomplish the mission has been set by Williams.

“For team, our playoff run, we have to do it piece by piece,” Williams said. “I don’t want to say we will go to state, we have to get to regional first, win that, and then go piece by piece. For my personal goals, I want to be a stat leader. I want to be a national stat leader this season; that would be great.”

Turning to recruiting, 32 scholarship opportunities have been handed to Williams as a defender and as a tight end. Top programs in the Big Ten and SEC are taking note.

“Michigan State, Ohio State, and Alabama are showing interest,” Williams stated. “Some show more interest than others.”

Williams continued listing the squads making heavy contact, “Georgia, Tennessee, Penn State, FSU, UF (Florida), UM (Miami), and USC.”

Preparing for college, Williams missed competing at college camps this summer but for good reason.

“I am planning on early enrolling, I couldn’t go to college camps this summer,” Williams shared. “I took an extra class so I can early enroll. During the summer, I got that class done and I worked out with the team. During a weekend practice, I worked out with Kaiir Elam, he was a first-round pick from UF. He is also a Benjamin alumnus.”

Making up for lost one-on-one time with college coaches over the summer, Williams has a busy schedule this fall.

“I know I have game-days set with Georgia, Kentucky, Tennessee, Penn State, and USC,” Williams said. “I am going to the LSU verses FSU game on Sept. 3 in Orlando.”

Traveling to the neutral site contest at Camping World Stadium as a Seminole prospect, Williams spoke about his relationship with Florida State.

“Coach (Mike) Norvell gave me his personal number,” Williams shared. “He has been in touch with me every other day seeing what is up and giving me ‘best of luck’ messages going into games. They have been consistent in my recruitment.”

The Buccaneers rolled in their season opener beating John Carroll 49-6. In addition to the 70-plus yard TD scored on offense, Williams was credited with three tackles, two tackles for a loss, a sack, and an 85-yard interception returned for a touchdown.

Next up for Benjamin is a home game against Clearwater Academy International.
