The football recruiting world moves fast and there is no position that can move faster in a blink of an eye than at quarterback out on the trail. On Sunday morning, both LSU and Alabama were still looking for a quarterback but by end of the day Monday both SEC schools had added an arm in the pocket for the 2017 class. LSU and Alabama could quite possibly still be looking for another gunslinger as a just in case or because they just like said player enough, although the Tigers now have two quarterbacks committed.

One Class of 2017 quarterback who has taken a dramatic rise up various college boards in recent weeks is Kaymen Cureton. Cureton went from an under the radar recruit committed to San Jose State (Dec. 9) to a hot player with double-digit offers from teams like South Carolina, San Diego State, Boston College, Nevada, Colorado State, New Mexico, and Hawaii along with LSU and Alabama.

Interest continues to build for the 6’2”, 201 pound, pro-style quarterback who happens to be a dual-threat. Kaymen has been a two-year field general for Los Angeles High School carrying his team to a 12-1-1 record in 2015 while throwing for 3,787 yards with 30 touchdowns and rushing for a team-high 775 yards off 54 carries with four more scores.

In a previous RNG interview, Cureton updated us on his 2015 season, his transfer from Los Angeles Senior to Leuzinger High School (Lawndale), his offseason workouts, and his west coast recruitment. In a follow up interview, the three-star recruit gives insight to how the SEC has been recruiting him and what other offers could be in the making.

Interview

Kaymen, you have some great offers on the table from SEC schools like Alabama, South Carolina, and LSU. Are there any other SEC schools showing interest in you right now?

“Arkansas, they have communicated with me through my coach (Dameon Porter). I was told to give them a follow and they would follow me back. They are supposed to be in touch soon. I was asked to text them my name and number. I guess they will call me sooner or later.”

Which coach from Alabama offered you?

“Coach Lane Kiffin.”

Do you have a visit set up with Alabama anytime soon?

“Coach Lane Kiffin will be here next week. It does not get any bigger than Alabama.”

What about LSU, do you have any visits either with a coach coming in or you going to Baton Rouge set up?

“I’m going to visit them during the third weekend of May.”

Does the distance from home for a given school weigh in on how you feel about a school?

“None whatsoever.”

What other schools are showing interest in you, like Arkansas, but have not offered you yet?

“Oklahoma they are showing interest through my coach. West Virginia and Florida, Florida State as well. Those are the big ones right now. I am just being patient with the process.”

Of the schools that have offered, are there any that are pushing hard to flip you?

“Colorado State. Coach (Mike) Bobo and his guys are pushing extremely hard. I talk to the coaches there on a daily basis. Coach (Brian) Polian from Nevada, they call and check in. On Thursday, LSU’s Coach (Dameyune) Craig gave me a follow on Twitter. I’m guessing that will pick up. Coach Craig scheduled a time to talk with me coming up.”

Do you have any unofficial visits lined up for any part of the spring or this summer?

“I want to go to UCLA and USC. My mom really wants to check out Colorado State. She really wants to go there. She’s a football mom. We want to go to Nevada too.”

Kaymen, thanks for your time today and good luck with your upcoming coaches’ visits and unofficial trips.

“Thank you.”
