Being an athlete and a team player is not always easy, at any level of sports. For Class of 2016 wide receiver Kohl Hollinquest the thought holds true.

In 2014, Hollinquest did what was best for Sierra Canyon lining up under center when injuries started piling up in the pocket completing 53-of-85 passes for 929 yards with nine touchdowns. When the 6’3”, 210 pound, athlete tucked the ball and ran, he picked up 257 yards with five scores on 36 carries. The Trailblazers, mixed with a lot of talent and unselfishness across the board, went 11-2 a year ago.

Now back at wide receiver for his senior year, Hollinquest has 15 receptions for 322 yards with six touchdowns leading the Trailblazers in receptions, receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns. Still showing that unselfish nature, Hollinquest is also playing a little defensive end for the Trailblazers making an impact as a speed rusher off the end on passing downs.

When Sierra Canyon quarterback Niko Harris drops back to pass, Hollinquest catches the ball smoothly with his hands naturally shielding his body from the defender creating an even bigger mismatch in the passing attack due to his size. When rising star running back Bobby Cole has the ball, Hollinquest is more than a willing blocker on the outside helping his teammate spring for big yards.

Hollinquest has offers from Columbia, Harvard, and University of Penn with several other national programs showing interest.

In a Recruiting News Guru exclusive interview, I caught up with Kohl to get his thoughts on Sierra Canyon’s 4-0 start to the 2015 season and a recruiting update.
