VENICE, Fla. – Having IMG Academy on the resume means something to college scouts, so does suiting up for Florida powerhouse Venice High School. The Indians are seemingly always in the running for a state championship or bringing home the hardware for the trophy case. Ryan Downes (6-4, 220) was one of the leaders in the pocket for the Ascenders last fall and is working to be that guy for Venice High School this spring.

The three-star 2025 QB updated his recruitment.

“I have offers from Indiana, Brown, Marshall, Kansas, but I am talking to a lot of schools right now,” Downes said. “It has been good. I am looking forward to this summer.”

Downes continued, “A bunch of schools have been coming down here recently. Toledo was here the other day; that was good. We talked to USF on Wednesday; a bunch of schools like that. A bunch of schools want me to camp, and a bunch of schools are coming down for our spring game.”

Looking to the summer, ACC programs will get to see Downes spin it in-person under their direction.

“I have been talking to Pitt a lot, I will go up there,” Downes shared. “UNC, Clemson, and Duke for sure; those are the ones we have locked in. From there, I will try to get to Virginia Tech; I have been talking to them a little bit, and Houston. From there, I’ve been talking to a lot of guys coming through here, we’ll see what else I can fit in.”

Downes has quickly acclimated himself with the Indians’ offense.

“We are running a fast-paced offense and “Coach P” (John Peacock) wants us to get the ball out as soon as possible,” Downes said. “I’m trying to add that aspect to my game to really showcase how quickly I can get the ball out. That is something I have, being able to work on it with really good receivers down here that have that timing and know how to run those routes has been good. Obviously, we will be able to push the ball downfield too. That pace of play will really show up on the field.”
