Jaxon Pyatt (6-2, 205) put the state of Colorado on notice this year. The 2026 prospect roamed the box whipping up on 5A competition for Arvada West (Arvada) making a lot of noise along the way. The tenacity in the box has not gone unnoticed already holding four Division I opportunities.

Primarily working at middle linebacker with stints at outside backer crashing down against the run and the pass, Pyatt filled the stat columns. The 2023 campaign ended leading the Wildcats with 99 tackles, 55 of those on his own, 17 tackles for a loss, four sacks, 10 quarterback hurries, four passes broken up, and two forced fumbles.

The role in the 3-5-3 scheme was explained, “I played middle linebacker. Leading the defense, I was calling the plays and making sure everyone does their job right. I was helping people out who were in the wrong gap and telling people what to do.”

The game reps against tough competition sharpened Pyatt’s skillset.

“Reading the offense got a lot easier by the end,” Pyatt stated. “Reading it was easy in the beginning and got a lot better at the end. Shedding blocks and blitzing off the edge improved a lot. My pass moves and my strength against offensive linemen when blitzing also improved.”

Pyatt added, “I feel like my speed and power are my best strengths. Even though I am good at reading offenses, I can blow someone up and mess up the play.”

Bowling Green, Connecticut, Ole Miss, and Syracuse want Pyatt on their roster in 2026. Other teams are scouting the rising star.

Penn State, Notre Dame, Nebraska, and Miami are showing interest,” Pyatt shared.

The interest out of Coral Gables was boosted after Pyatt visited during the spring.

“I visited there, it went pretty well,” Pyatt said. “I saw them practice and I got to meet all the coaches.”

Pyatt got around this fall to see some game-day atmospheres.

“I went to Penn State, Ole Miss, and CU (Colorado),” Pyatt stated.

The Buffaloes impressed Pyatt.

“It was pretty cool, actually super cool,” Pyatt shared. “I went to a couple games. The Rock was there; that was sick. The environment was great. Everything was awesome.”

Happy Valley also made a big impression on Pyatt.

“That was definitely the best one yet,” Pyatt said. “That environment was the craziest thing I have ever seen. I couldn’t talk to anyone because it was so loud. I met their head coach, coach (James) Franklin. Their jerseys are sick also. The game against Michigan (Nov. 11) was awesome. That was a crazy environment.”

Future visits are in the works.

“I want to take a visit to Notre Dame, Penn State, and Ole Miss,” Pyatt stated. “This time, I want to tour the campus fully and meet the coaches. I want to visit Syracuse as well.”

The stage for a big sophomore season was set a year ago when Pyatt appeared in nine games totaling 21 tackles with six for a loss.
