NORTH PORT, Fla. – The 2023 schedule will be a showcase season for Nick Leroux. The Class of 2024 lineman came up through the ranks with Florida high school powerhouse program Venice, but after transferring in the offseason will be a linchpin player for North Port Bobcats this fall as a two-way performer.

The 6-2, 270-pounder, spoke about developing his craft as a center this summer, “I have been working on quick foot movement, getting off the ball, reading linebackers, picking up linebackers, and the most important part, the snap. I’m also making sure that I am conditioned because I am playing both ways.”

Flipping the field, stopping the opposition is a priority for Leroux.

“I have been working on watching the ball, being disciplined, keeping a good stance, being explosive out of my stance, being a team player, making sure I am reading the ball, and overall being a good teammate,” Leroux stated.

After showing out at a St. Thomas University camp this summer, there’s a chance Leroux could be a Bobcat again at the next level in the Mid-South Conference.

“I went to one, STU, Saint Thomas University in Miami,” Leroux shared. “I performed really well. One of my coaches here, coach Terry, his son (Anthony Neymeiyer) is the offensive line coach there. I got to talk to him. He played the same position, he’s the same height as me, and was the same weight in high school. Coach Terry kind of sees me like a son; it was a great experience. I had a great time. It was a good overall camp.”

Interest is building from squads like McGill, Concordia, Wabash, and Carthage for Leroux.

“I am connecting with a lot of D-II and D-III colleges, especially in the West Virginia and Ohio area,” Leroux said. “One of our coaches that just took a D-II job in West Virginia, he’s coming down to recruit me; that will be nice.”

Leroux and the Bobcats kickoff their high school football season on Aug. 25 in an away game against Parrish Community.
