The Elite 11 quarterback competition has a storied history with 10 of the last 11 quarterbacks to have won a Heisman Trophy Award having participated at either the Nike Opening Regionals or at the Elite 11 Finals. A grueling three-day event for 24 Class of 2017 high school quarterbacks ended on Sunday with a field of 12 announced on Monday.

While the quarterbacks go through their competition, all other positions on the gridiron go through their own gauntlet of challenges seeking to be among the 166 players selected for the Opening Finals. The linemen go through a series of one-on-ones in hopes of being named in the Five Lineman Challenge pitting offense vs. defense. Skill position players compete in the overall SPARQ rating challenge as the most physically fit and are placed on 7×7 teams lining up with the 12 selected by the Elite 11 coaching staff.

The Opening in, Beaverton (OR), runs July 8-10.
