Errol Thompson Picks Mississippi State over Alabama

Written by Ryan Wright

A rare recruiting decision went down on Friday when linebacker Errol Thompson verbally committed to Mississippi State.

Thompson 6’3”, 240 pounds, has garnered a lot of attention stopping opposing offenses for Florence High School helping the Falcons post an 11-3 mark in 2014. Double-digit offers have rolled with Arkansas, Memphis, Missouri, Southern Miss, and Tennessee being among the many suitors. Recruiting services believe in Thompson’s abilities as well with ESPN ranking him as the No. 4 inside linebacker in the nation.

Leading up to his decision day, Alabama, MSU, Michigan, Louisville, and Kentucky were named as his top schools with the Crimson Tide and Bulldogs taking turns leading the way. Thompson made several unofficial visits to Tuscaloosa during the offseason making his announcement a slight shock in recruiting circles.

Mississippi State now has 15 verbal commitments to their 2016 recruiting class. Thompson is the second commit from Alabama joining offensive guard Dee Nalls (Fayette, AL).
