Exclusive Interview: Kiondre Thomas talks verbal commitment to Louisiana Tech

On Monday night 6’0”, 170 pound, speedster Kiondre Thomas became the ninth commitment to Louisiana’s 2016 recruiting class. Thomas is the fifth defensive back landed by the Bulldogs and the second 3-star athlete landed out of the state of Arkansas (DB David Beasley, Pine Bluff).

In a Recruiting News Guru exclusive interview we caught up with Kiondre moments after he announced his verbal commitment.

Kiondre, what influenced you to commit today?

“I was thinking about it, I knew I wanted to commit for about a week. I’m not sure why I picked today but it just felt right.”

How did the commitment take place?

“I committed to Coach (Blake) Baker the defensive coordinator.”

What was the reaction of the Coach Baker when you committed?

“He seemed pretty excited. He started explaining everything. He was telling me how much – he was glad I was joining the family and how good I could be joining the team.”

Did you get to talk to head coach Skip Holtz?

“Coach Baker said he was probably going to call me sometime tomorrow.”

How did you feel at that moment when you verbally committed?

“I was pretty excited. Just to know where I am going to college after this next year. Finally got that off of my chest.”

Do you still plan to take your visits during your senior season?

“Yes sir. I’m committed but I’m going to have my recruiting open and listen to other teams. Just in case something goes wrong in the process and their (Louisiana Tech) coaches leave.”

Being from Arkansas I have to ask you about Arkansas and Arkansas State. Will you still take an official visit to either team?

“Yes sir. Like I said I’m going to keep my options open. Just because I’m committed I’m not going to rule all schools out.”

Do you plan on recruiting other players to join you?

“Yes sir, I’m going to plan on it. I’m a good recruiter.”

Who are you going to recruit first?

“First I’m going to recruit my teammate Deontre Hardwick. I’m going to ask about other recruits and see what they tell me. I’ll see who the coaches are recruiting and help get the same people to commit.”

Thanks for your time tonight. Congratulations. Enjoy your evening.

“Thank you sir.”

Kiondre committed to Louisiana Tech over offers from Arkansas State, Tulsa, Eastern Illinois, Jacksonville State, and Missouri State.
