PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. – One of the best hidden gems in the Sunshine State went off the board on Sunday when Edd Guerrier (5-10, 195) verbally committed to Rutgers. The Class of 2024 tailback smoked Florida defenses last fall compiling 1,450 yards on the ground with 20 touchdowns and caught five passes for 113 yards with another trip into the end zone during Port Charlotte’s 10-game schedule. All that talent is now headed to New Jersey for college.

The draw to play in Piscataway was shared by Guerrier, “I have family that lives in New Jersey, it will be good to still be close to family. I grew up watching Isaiah Pacheco, and he went to Rutgers, that is something fun for me because he is one of my favorite running backs.”

An anytime-anywhere kind of bond has been built with the Scarlet Knights’ coaching staff.

“We have a good relationship, one good enough that they can FaceTime me whenever,” Guerrier said. “We’ve been talking for a while, checking up on each other a lot. We have a good relationship, and it is getting stronger.”

Rutgers likes the versatility Guerrier brings to the field.

“They like me because they say I have a unique type of vision, and they call me a balanced back; I’m fast, I have good balance, and good weight,” Guerrier stated.

When coach Greg Schiano begins his 15th season on the field with Rutgers against Northwestern, their 2024 running back commit will be there.

“My official to Rutgers is scheduled for Sept. 3,” Guerrier said. “I’m going to go watch their first game, their season opener; that’ll be fun.”

While in New Jersey, Guerrier ran down what he wants to accomplish during the visit, “I want to see their campus, I want to see their coaches in action, I know they provide a good education, I want to see the classrooms, and I want to see the dorms.”

Now part of Rutgers’ future, Gurrier has a big-time target he’s going after to help the Scarlet Knights recruit in the 2025 class, his four-star defensive end teammate.

“I’m going to try to talk to Myron (Charles) because I know he has a Rutgers offer already,” Guerrier stated.

The pitch to Charles?

“So he and I can be teammates for another three or four years, we can get a dorm together, and I would have someone from Florida there with me,” Guerrier said.

Rutgers now has 23 verbal commitments to their 2023 recruiting class.
