Speed kills on the gridiron, and college teams are catching onto how Justin Thurman (6-0, 180) can squash opposing defenses with his legs and abilities. The 2025 running back out of Tampa Jesuit (Fla.) has torched the track this spring posting a personal record 10.84 in the 100. Word is spreading around collegiate offices about Thurman with four offers down and Power Five interest building.

Thurman holds offers from Florida, Kansas, Rutgers, and Tennessee with interest coming his way from Kansas State, Stanford, and Florida State.

Making the jump down I-4 to Orlando, Thurman got a chance to learn more about the Knights in March.

“It was a good visit,” Thurman stated. “It was very insightful as they make the transition into the Big 12. I got to meet the coaches, see the facilities, and see how they run everything. It was a good visit.”

The trip to Gainesville is one to remember.

“It went great,” Thurman said. “Being able to see what their philosophy and culture is like, and how they run their academics; they have an emphasis on academics. I like what they are building there with coach (Billy) Napier. I learned more about how they run the program and how they put their running backs in their offense; I really liked it. When I was there, I received an offer from coach Napier in-person. We had a good conversation.”

The Scarlet Knights impressed Thurman while he was in Piscataway.

“It was amazing,” Thurman shared. “It was very informative. I watched them practice and scrimmage. I was able to learn about their philosophies, meet their players, and I met with their academic’s director; that was good. I sat in the running backs’ meeting, and I sat with coach (Damiere) Shaw (RB) breaking down film.

“While I was there, I met with coach Greg Schiano. He gave me more insight on how I would be a valuable addition and how I would impact Rutgers’ football program.”

SEC East power Tennessee is up next with two Big 12 trips being planned for this summer.

“I am going to Tennessee’s spring game on April 15, and I am planning to go to Kansas in the late spring or early summer,” Thurman stated. “I am also planning on going to Kansas State as well this summer.”

Thurman spoke about why he’s excited to visit the Volunteers this weekend.

“I am excited to be able to see how they run their offense, how everything is put together, and how the team works,” Thurman said. “Being able to see how they work together and utilize their running back, and their entire offense to be more successful.”

The Tampa Jesuit track team has been racking up the accolades this spring with Thurman doing his part. The 4×1 relay team broke the school record and then broke their own record two more times with a 41.67 best posted at FSU’s relays.
