Florida four-star SDE Xavier Porter shares two official visit spots with contenders

Two official visits are set for four-star defensive end Xavier Porter, but a blueblood program out of the Big 12 is trying to close in on the Tampa (Fla.) area prospect. The recruiting process for the Tampa Catholic standout is heating up with paid for visits set to begin in June.

Leave it to the legacy and recruiting efforts of Oklahoma head coach Brent Venables and his staff to make such a big impact on Xavier Porter. The long recruiting reach of the Sooners is extending down into Central Florida getting the 2024 four-star to Norman in March to see what the Sooners have to offer.

“It was a pretty good visit,” Porter said. “It was pretty good. Coach Venables – we watched a practice, I watched how coach Todd Bates coaches the line, and I saw them get after it a little bit. They are better off the field than on it, and they show it. The Soul Program they have is a great way to get your mind off of football and they present opportunities to give back; that is a great deal for the players. Coach Venables is looking at me heavy right now. It was a pretty good visit.”

Unofficial visits may be over for now with trips picking back up in June for Porter.

“I have officials set to Penn State on June 9-11 and one set to Kansas on June 15-17,” Porter said.

Porter broke down his interest in both programs that secured them a spot on his OV list.

THE BREAKDOWN

Penn State: “I like them because I have developed a strong relationship with all of their coaches, not just their d-line coach (Deion Barnes). They are a very good team and program. They have a great program for me, as far as what I want to study in college, broadcasting and journalism.”

Kansas: “I really like them because coach (Jim) Panagos (DT) has been the realest coach with me since they started recruiting me in November. He really wants to develop me and make me into a better player, that is why I like them. They also have a good program for broadcasting and journalism.”

There are some contenders that could fill out Porter’s official travel list.

“I am looking at Oklahoma, we have to get a date set up, and we’ll see if Illinois will be one,” Porter shared.
