Recruiting efforts paying off for head coach Jim McElwain and staff for the 2017 class were nowhere to be found until the Gators netted 4-star Miami tight end Kemore Gamble on Friday landing a really big recruit out of the Hurricanes’ backyard.

Gamble was effective in the passing game for Southridge High School hauling in 15 passes for 184 yards with five touchdowns but was also a very effective blocker in the run game. Listed at 6’4”, 216 pounds, Gamble could grow into a next level tight end or become a possession receiver for the Gators once on campus.

Florida was able to flip Gamble away from in-state rival Miami after the 3-star recruit decommitted from the Hurricanes on March 8. Gamble also had reported offers from Mississippi State, Kentucky, Cincinnati, Temple, Syracuse, Rutgers, Bowling Green, North Carolina State, Wisconsin, West Virginia, Illinois, Louisville, and North Carolina.

The commitment was made official Friday night with Gamble posting, “Officially committed to University of Florida. #ChompChomp” on Twitter.

The Gators now have four verbal commitments to their 2017 class but three of the four, Jake Allen, Daquon Green, and Kadeem Telfort, all committed in July of 2015. Gamble’s commitment should inject some excitement on the recruiting trail for the Gators.
