Christmas has come early for University of Oklahoma Head Coach Bob Stoops and the rest of the Sooners coaching staff. Stoops announced today that former Texas A&M quarterback Kyler Murray has signed a financial aid agreement with Oklahoma and will join their football program starting in the 2016 spring semester.

On Dec. 17, Murray left the Aggies and was granted a release to transfer. “Uncertainty with the direction of Texas A&M’s offense, and how the quarterbacks were utilized” were some of the factors that led to his transfer, sources indicated to ESPN.com.

Murray, a 5’11”, 188 pound, dual-threat quarterback played his freshman season with the Aggies where he appeared in eight games and started three as he threw for 686 yards, with five touchdowns and seven interceptions and ran for another 335 yards.

Murray is from Allen, Texas where he was a 2014-15 National Gatorade Football Player of the Year as a senior and led his team to three straight state championships including a 43 game winning streak. He ended his amazing high school career with 10,386 passing yards, 117 passing touchdowns, 4,129 rushing yards and 69 rushing touchdowns.

Coming out of high school, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Oregon and Texas were all making a run at Murray before he eventually chose the Aggies.

This spring, Murray joins a Sooners squad that finished 11-1 in the regular season and clinched a spot in the College Football Playoffs. No. 4 Oklahoma will face No. 1 Clemson on Dec. 31 in Miami for a spot to play in the National Championship Game on Jan. 11.

When Murray joins Oklahoma, the other quarterbacks on the roster will be freshman Reece Clark, junior Baker Mayfield, freshman Connor McGinnis, redshirt-sophomore Cody Thomas. Senior backup Trevor Knight was granted a full release by coach Bob Stoops on Dec. 10 after he announced his intentions to transfer.

In Oklahoma’s press release announcing Murray’s signing, an excited Coach Stoops said, “We’re very happy to welcome Kyler to our program and we look forward to working with him.”

With the signing of Kyler Murray, the future is bright at the quarterback position for the Oklahoma Sooners.
