Fun interview with Grossmont JUCO CB Maurice Carnell IV
Maurice Carnell IV is an impact player for Grossmont Junior College in the San Diego area, and soon to be at the Division-I level. The former Lincoln High School recruit came up with 36 tackles, 3 interceptions, 2 forced fumbles, and 2 fumble recoveries on his way to a First-Team All-Conference and team Defensive Player of the Year honors as a freshman.
Carnell will have the same opportunity to shore up a secondary at the D-I level starting in 2016 with teams like Utah State and Texas State already extending offers while teams like Arizona, Arizona State, USC, and Northern Arizona show interest.
We questioned the 5’11”, 175 pound, speedster on all things football in a previous interview but wanted to know more about the man out on “Carnell Island” off the gridiron. In an ongoing Recruiting News Guru “getting to know you” Q&A series, we put Carnell through another quiz.

Maurice, what is your favorite movie?
“There are a lot of good movies. My favorite would have to be Friday Night Lights.”
Who is your favorite actor?
“That’s a good question. I’d have to say Kevin Hart. That dude is hilarious from the beginning all the way to the end.”
Who is your favorite actress?
“Queen Latifah.”
What is your favorite TV show?
“ESPN, my TV stays on ESPN. My dream is to be on ESPN’s Top 10 (highlights).”
What is your favorite book?
“I read a lot, my favorite one would have to be The Great Gatsby (F. Scott Fitzgerald).”
What is your favorite type of music?
“Hip-Hop.”
What music you listen to getting hyped?
“Meek Mill.”
What hobbies do you have outside of football?
“Besides school, I have two personal trainers, for speed and strength training. I hit the beach with my friends. I’m enjoying sunny San Diego while I can.”
What is your favorite type of food?
“Italian food, I love it.”
Do you have a favorite game system?
“Xbox 1.”
What is your favorite Xbox game?
“Madden, it’s always been Madden.”
What is your favorite subject in school?
“Not math, that’s my worst. I’d say science. It’s always a good thing learning about life and the world.
Who is your favorite athlete?
“Darrelle Revis (New York Jets).”
What is your favorite holiday?
“Christmas, I love the holiday. The Christmas spirit is always good.”
If you could be a superhero which superhero would you be?
“I would be Spiderman. I think its cool how he shoots webs out of his hands and swings and flies everywhere. I’ve always been a big Spiderman fan.”
Which professional sports team is your favorite?
“The San Diego Chargers. I’m not feeling them moving out.”
