Notre Dame seemingly always recruits well pulling in top players year after year. The 2017 haul ended ranked No. 13 in the nation by Rivals with 21 total commits, eight four-stars and 12 three-stars. The Irish staff jumped out early on last year’s recruits picking up nine verbal commits by mid-April. The 2018 class has the same momentum building, if not better, adding their eighth prospect thus far when Georgia safety Derrik Allen joined the group on Monday.

Allen is the hard hitting and deep ball covering safety every college program wants on their roster. Even though the recruiting process was still in the early stages for Allen, the 6-1, 205 pound, standout had 35 reported offers extended from teams like Oklahoma, LSU, Clemson, Michigan State, Tennessee, Penn State, North Carolina, Auburn, Florida State, Virginia Tech, South Carolina, Miami, and in-state powerhouse Georgia.

Notre Dame fans found out about Allen’s commitment on Monday, Feb. 13, with a posted statement on Twitter:

Allen worked into becoming a four-star recruit with Lassiter High School. The Marietta squad went 6-5 during the 2016 season against 7A competition.

Rivals ranks Notre Dame’s 2018 class No. 2 in the country with eight total commits. Of the eight, six are considered four-star recruits.
