The All-American potential of running back Keith Marshall will never come to fruition in a Bulldogs’ uniform after the announcement that the gifted back will not seek a medical redshirt season opting to graduate in 2015 from the Georgia program.

Marshall came to Athens as one of the top prospects in the nation out of Millbrook High School. The Raleigh native was atop all recruiting boards as a 5- or 4-star recruit and one of the top players in the nation regardless of position as part of the 2012 recruiting class. After being an early enrollee, Marshall played in 14 games with one start as a true freshman racking up 117 carries for 759 yards while splitting time with 1,300-yard rusher Todd Gurley.

The 2013 and 2014 seasons were lost for the 5’11”, 210 pound, back suffering a torn ACL against Tennessee after five games during his sophomore season and played in just three games as a junior after battling ankle and knee sprains. During spring ball, Marshall was again limited dealing with a hamstring pull.

Georgia has used Marshall sparingly in 2015 giving the senior 49 carries in nine games played. Marshall has 255 yards rushing on the year with three touchdowns scored with the bulk of his stat line coming in Week 1 against Louisiana-Monroe with 10 carries for 73 yards and two scores. Marshall did not play in Week 11 during a 20-13 win against Auburn.

When announcing Marshall’s decision to forego an opportunity for a medical redshirt season in 2016, Georgia head coach Mark Richt stated Marshall was ready to test the NFL waters as the reason for not returning to Athens next year.

The Bulldogs (7-3, 5-3) have two regular season games left taking on Georgia Southern this week and then travel to Atlanta to face in-state rival Georgia Tech to end the 2015 campaign.
