The race for the best running back in the 2017 recruiting class is well on its way with players from all over the nation contending for top honors. Among the list of 20 or so 5- and 4-star recruits is Newton High School’s Kurt Taylor.

Taylor is a rock on wheels at 5’9”, 200 pounds, coming out of the Rams’ backfield. The Covington, Georgia area rising star was not utilized as much as other 2017 players last season, but when he got the ball he made his touches count. With two upperclassmen getting more carries, Taylor still out-gained one teammate and nearly surpassed the other racking up 462 rushing yards on just 74 totes with four touchdowns. He also turned three receptions into 92 yards with another two scores.

The Rams posted a 7-4 mark in 2014 and are off to an even better start this season winning their first four games without a defeat. Heading into a Week 5 match-up against Lowndes, Taylor is averaging 102 rushing yards per game, while only playing in parts of games due to big leads, rushing for 409 yards on 61 carries with three touchdowns. Showing his ability to catch the ball out of the backfield, he has four receptions for another 30 yards.

College coaches already see the talent Taylor possesses with double-digit offers from teams like Michigan, Vanderbilt, Illinois, UNLV, Indiana, Colorado State, Cincinnati, and Kentucky while receiving interest from programs like Stanford, Georgia, Georgia Tech, and Tennessee.

Taylor has released his early season highlight reel complete with nifty footwork, spin moves, power running, and open field breakaway speed (click link for video).
