The summer months have been full of big college football commitments, and the trend continued Wednesday morning when Arkansas surprised the recruiting trail landing four-star linebacker Justin Logan. The Class of 2024 defender took official visits to NC State and Missouri, but an unofficial visit and childhood family ties put the Razorbacks ahead of 30 other offers.

The Kell High School (Marietta, Ga.) talent spent the weekend on the road visiting Louisville and the Hogs. Logan gave details of his time in Fayetteville.

“We got there, the first thing they did, coach Travis Williams (DC), their linebackers coach, he greeted me and my dad at the door,” Logan said. “We couldn’t find where to park, he told us where to go, and he met us at the door. Then we got breakfast and after that a graduate assistant gave us a whole tour of the place.”

Logan continued sharing nuance to the recruiting process with the Razorbacks, “With them, they offered me back in January, when all the other teams offered. Our communication had been mainly texting, but then my dad saw he went to middle school with coach Williams; he hit him up. He said ‘what’s up’ to him, after that they had a phone call. They invited us to the cookout on Saturday. We went to Louisville on Friday and then flew to Arkansas; that is how it all happened.”

The phone call between old grade school classmates kickstarted what turned into a verbal commitment.

Justin Logan with Arkansas head coach Sam Pittman.

“I started leaning into them after coach Williams got in contact with my father,” Logan shared. “College coaches don’t talk to the parents as much; coach Williams was talking to my dad more than me. He said he was going to show coach (Sam) Pittman my film and coach Pittman would decide if he was going to give me a commitable offer.”

The Saturday spent in Fayetteville tipped the scales for Arkansas.

“It was how they treated us like family,” Logan said. “The coaches are very family orientated. We were doing fun family things like a scavenger hunt and playing family feud, but it felt like I was at a family member’s cookout.”

Logan told coach Pittman and everyone else visiting the Hogs on Saturday that he was all in.

“I committed on Saturday,” Logan stated. “I was meeting with coach Pittman, he told me my offer was commitable. After that, I walked out and announced to the families and coaches. I got up on the stage and announced I was committing to Arkansas.”

What started out as an intimidating moment became one Logan will remember for the rest of his life.

“It was nerve racking at first,” Logan shared. “There were a lot of people there, a big crowd like that, but after I got the words out, seeing everyone up roaring and making that noise, it felt good. That was one of the happiest moments of my life.”

An official visit date with Arkansas has not been set yet, but Logan is aiming for a weekend in December so he can spend more time with the coaching staff while in town.
