Houston Cougars continue Texas recruiting surge landing four more commitments

If Tom Herman’s short time at Houston is showing any cyclical signs in recruiting those signs are verbal commitments in bunches. On Tuesday the Cougars landed four more verbal commitments getting cornerback Nygel King, cornerback Ka’Darian Smith, cornerback Javian Smith, and defensive end Hasaun Glasgow.

The early focus in recruiting for Houston has been on the defensive side of the ball with all four commitments from Tuesday slotted at stopping the offense giving the Cougars 11 total verbal pledges for the 2016 class. Eight of the 11 commitments are defensive players.

Spring, Texas recruit Ka’Darian Smith has 10 reported offers from Iowa State, Fresno State, Louisiana Tech, Toledo, New Mexico and in-state programs Texas Tech, SMU, Rice, and North Texas. Joining Smith in the secondary will be Bush High School corner Javian Smith. Smith has good speed and ideal size at 6’1” with a frame to add more to his reported 162 pounds. The Richmond area recruit currently has three offers with SMU and Fresno State also trying to land his services at the next level.

The more highly recruited of the three cornerbacks landed is Nygel King. The Klein Oak High School star has 14 offers on the table from teams like Colorado State, Utah, Utah State, Iowa State, Kansas, Louisiana-Lafayette, Nevada, Texas State, Louisiana Tech, SMU, North Texas, and Fresno State.

Manvel defensive end Hasaun Glasgow is the second defensive end, fourth defensive line commitment for the Cougars in the 2016 class. Glasgow, at 6’3”, 226 pounds, was a force for Manvel High School as a junior leading to nine scholarship offers from teams like Louisville, Illinois, Memphis, Nevada, New Mexico State, SMU, Texas State, Prairie View A&M, and New Mexico State.

Houston is quickly approaching their total number of recruits signed for the 2015 recruiting class landing 16 in February.
