Written by Ryan Wright

The Houston Cougars continued their mission of locking down area Class of 2016 talents landing safety Collin Wilder on Tuesday. The verbal commitment sent yet another message to fellow Lone Star college football programs that the Cougars are for real flipping the one-time Texas Tech commitment.

Wilder, 5’11”, 185 pounds, has seen his recruiting stock soar in the offseason after he came up with 118 tackles and three picks during his junior season. Wisconsin, Duke, Iowa State, Boston College, Minnesota, SMU, Tulane, Vanderbilt, and Northwestern have all extended offers to the Katy High School standout.

Northwestern and Wisconsin hosted Wilder on unofficial visits and Texas reportedly dropped by his school to meet with him during his recruiting process.

The Cougars now have 12 verbal commitments to their 2016 recruiting class all hailing from the state of Texas. Great focus has been given to the defensive side of the ball thus far on the recruiting trail. Of the 12 commitments 9 have been defensive players.
