Tom Herman and the Cougars coaching staff fired off another recruiting shot across the bow of other Texas college programs on Christmas Eve when flipping quarterback/athlete D’Eriq King away from TCU.

King has been a true dual-threat quarterback for Manvel High School over the past four seasons slowly ramping up his production to great heights. As a sophomore, King threw for 2,626 yards with 36 touchdowns against eight interceptions and rushed for a career single-season high 1,288 yards with 17 more scores.

King became a better decision maker in the pocket over his last two seasons throwing for 3,050 yards with 47 touchdowns against just three picks and then threw for 2,894 yards with 43 touchdowns against five interceptions during his senior season. King, who could run for significant yardage at any time, backed off the run in 2014 and 2015 focusing more on distributing the ball but still rushed for 789 yards and 637 yards with 20 total touchdowns in 2014 and ’15.

TCU gained King’s commitment in January but that did not stop offers from coming in for the 5’9.5”, 170 pound, speedster. Baylor, Clemson, Cal, Michigan State, Missouri, Texas Tech, UCLA, Washington, Rutgers, and Kansas State were among the many schools looking to lure King and his athleticism to their respective campuses. King decommitted from TCU on Dec. 16 opting for the Cougars on Dec. 24.

Houston now has 21 commitments to their 2016 recruiting class with J.J. Dallas, Na’Ty Rodgers, and Terrell Williams, all JUCO players, having already signed their letters of intent.
