In an exclusive Recruiting News Guru interview, I sat down with Trey to talk about his breakout season at Wheeler High School.

Interview
Trey, how would you grade your individual performance during your sophomore season?
If I had to give myself a grade, it would be an A-minus. I was Top 5 in rushing yards for the state of Indiana. But we didn’t make it deep into the playoffs so it gave kids opportunities to surpass me. But I doubled my stats and production from my freshman year which was good.

What would you say was your best game and why?
My best game this season was against Lowell High School. They are a 4A school and we are a 2A school, which means they are twice as big as us. They were ranked 9th in the state for 4A and I ended up having a huge game with 151 rushing yards a touchdown and two sacks. But Griffith was a close second. They are also a 4A school and I put up 267 rushing yards with two offensive touchdowns and two defensive touchdowns.

What are your strengths on the football field?
I would say my biggest strength is my vision and willingness to leave it all out on the field and do whatever it takes to win at all costs. Also having the ability if we are down to pick my team up and keep their heads on straight.

Did you receive any individual honors?
My freshman year I was first team All-Conference, All-Area Honorable Mention, Offensive Team MVP, and the leading rusher in Indiana for freshmen. This year as a sophomore, I have received first team All-Conference, All-Area, and Offensive Team MVP. I’ve also received invites from multiple major camps all over the US. There are still awards to come out still so that not might be all.

What kind of offensive scheme does Wheeler run?
Single Wing.

How do your skills fit into this scheme?
It gives me the opportunity to use my vision and use my talent to make plays. It’s a flexible offense so it’s easy to go to my guys and my coaches and make key changes on the fly.

How would you describe what kind of player you are?
One hundred percent committed to the success of my team.

How would you describe what kind of teammate you are?
I tend to be quiet and lead by example. But I also am the guy that can notice if someone is off and will be there for them on the field and off.

What is one area of your game that you saw the most improvement in over the course of the season?
There was a lot of change to my game as a whole physically but I feel the biggest thing for me was being more comfortable communicating with my coaches and teammates. I was able to go to them and game plan after the film and during the game and make changes for the better success of my team.

What is your fastest 40-yard dash time?
4.6 laser.

Is there an NFL player that you try to model your game after?
I watch a lot of Christian Mccaffery workout videos and his film and try to match my game to his.

What do you like most about playing at Wheeler High School?
My teammates because we have created a bond that is driven by the will to win.

Do you play any other sports in high school?
Track, I run the 100M, 200M, and the 4X1 relay.

What is your favorite subject in school and why?
My favorite subject is History, because I like to learn about the way things work and how things have changed over time.

What is your GPA?
3.0.

Who has had the biggest impact on your football career?
My dad has had the biggest impact on my football career. He has always pushed me since I was little and has taught me to never settle. No matter how good you are there is always someone out there that is better. And that has impacted my football career and in the classroom.

Are there any other schools showing interest in you?
Yes, but it is hard for me to state names because nothing is set in stone.

What are your goals for the offseason?
The goal for this offseason is to get faster and more explosive. I would like to put on a least 5-10 more pounds of muscle for next season too. But the biggest thing is getting faster and perfecting my craft.

Do you have a favorite quote or Bible verse?
Proverbs 16:3: “Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established.”

Trey, thanks for your time today and good luck with your offseason workouts.
Thank you.
