The choice was surely his but a little paternal nudge may have been enough to help Indiana land Florida Class of 2017 linebacker Thomas Allen.

Allen started making a name for himself during his junior season with Plant High School (Tampa) coming up with 62 tackles, 23 solo, and an eye popping 27 tackles for a loss. The 6’3”, 235 pound, talent added four sacks, two pass deflections, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery to his resume helping the Panthers to a 9-3 mark in 2015.

Colleges started coming around with teams like South Florida, Princeton, Southern Miss, Dartmouth, Bowling Green, Alcorn State, Eastern Kentucky, Miami (Ohio), Rutgers, and Colorado State offering. Indiana offered in February after Allen’s father, Tom Allen, made the move from USF to Indiana as the Hoosiers’ new defensive coordinator in January.

Allen posted his commitment on Twitter reading, “I was born a HOOSIER, now I am officially choosing to become one. I am blessed to be committing to THE Indiana University!”

Indiana now has four verbal commitments to their 2017 class. The four are split between in-state talents and Florida recruits.
