The 2018 season for Demarco Walker was a preview of coming attractions. The 6-1, 200-pound, athlete served as a backup at running back to three-star Louisiana-Monroe signee Kadyn Roach and spent time on defense at strongside defensive end. If Walker’s junior season on the field with Magnolia High School showed anything, he is true athlete and a true football player.

Walker has the size and body of a running back and linebacker showing burst of speed and quickness when he hits the hole. Full season stats were not released for the Panthers, but in stats posted through seven games, Walker carried the rock 48 times for 237 yards with two scores and hauled in a 16-yard touchdown pass. On defense, he finished the season with 22 stops, two tackles for a loss, and forced a fumble.

The 2019 season promises to be a different one for Walker and the Panthers all the way around. A new head coach (Dee Rogers) has been brought in changing the look on both sides of the ball and the overall impact their rising Class of 2020 talent can bring to the field. A few regional colleges already know of Walker, but that list is sure to grow after the college camp circuit this summer and a senior year with big expectations.

In an RNG exclusive, I sat down with Walker for an in-depth look at his play on the field in 2018 with a quick update on his early recruiting process.

Interview

Demarco, how did the 2018 season play out on the field for you personally?

“It was fun. We did what we could to put the team on top. We competed hard but it did not turn out the way we wanted. I know next year will be even greater.”

You split time in the backfield with three-star 2019 athlete Kadyn Roach (Louisiana-Monroe). When they called your number on running plays, how were you used within the offense?

“I was used mostly on third down plays, short-yardage plays, and downhill plays. My running style is different. I am an angry downhill- meet you in the hole runner. I go beast mode out there.”

You also played some defense last season. Where all did you line up and how did you see your game improve?

“On defense, my coaches had me at strongside defensive end. My game improved with my quickness. My goal was to do whatever I could to help my team win on offense or on defense.”

Which side of the ball do you like playing the most?

“I like offense, but I do like contact. I like running guys over. I like scoring. My mindset is to always score and to fight for every inch.”

What are the strengths to your game as a running back?

“My strengths are my quickness, strength, and vision. I have strong legs, I have power when I run the ball.”

Which areas of your game are you working on this spring?

“I am working on my speed and I am trying to gain weight. My goal is to get up to 225.”

Have you maxed out in the weight room this spring?

“Yes. I have the highest squat at school right now, 550 pounds. My bench is 285 and my power clean is 270.”

How do you see your roles expanding on offense and/or on defense in 2019?

“We have a new coach, there is a different vision for the season. My role will be a key player making key plays. If we need a touchdown or just need something to happen, I will get it done. I will play and start on both sides of the ball this year.”

Have you gone to any camps yet this offseason?

“Yes, sir. I went to a Louisiana Tech camp.”

How did that go?

“It went really well. They showed me some love, and put me on their recruiting base.”

What is the best 40-yard dash time you’ve posted?

“My best is a 4.6.”

Which schools are showing recruiting interest?

“I am receiving interest from Louisiana Tech, Arkansas Tech, UCA (Central Arkansas), and Arkansas.”

Do you have any planned you may take coming up?

“Yes, sir. I plan on going to Arkansas Tech for a Junior Day and to Arkansas for a Prospect Day visit.”

Last question. What type of leader are you on the gridiron?

“I am a leader for my team on and off the field. No matter what, the next play is not promised. I give it my all on every play. I go all out and I do everything for my family.”

Demarco, it was great learning more about you play on the field today. I appreciate your time.

“Thank you.”
