Be prepared to start hearing the name Adam Parker a whole heck of a lot over the next two years, especially this offseason as the football camp season heats up. Parker earned first team All-District and All-Parish Offensive MVP during his sophomore season with St. Mary’s instantly attracting a spotlight. The Natchitoches rising star completed 115 passes for 1,598 yards with 16 touchdowns earning his first start three games into the 2020 season (6-3). With their developing dual-threat guiding the offense, after the initial varsity start, the Tigers rolled off five consecutive victories rolling into the playoffs. The play on the field and the dedication to his studies, a 4.0 student with a 28 on the ACT, has attracted early interest from Louisiana College, Millsap, La Grange, and Mississippi College among others.

In an RNG first-look conversation, Parker takes us inside the Tigers’ offense with a look at his offseason workouts and early camp schedule.

Interview

Adam, the postseason honors rolled in for you after the 2020 season ended. What were you doing so well on the field to earn All-District and All-Parish Offensive MVP honors?

It started after Week 3, that is when I started my first game. In the beginning, I was trying to make the high percentage plays and I was being smart with the ball. As the season got going, I started getting more confident. In district, we were not ranked high preseason, and Logansport was No. 1. It was our killer instinct going into that game as we built to being the best team in our league.

What offensive scheme were you executing?

It was a basic Spread with a lot of doubles and trip sets, and some empty sets in district. We also did some Air Raid.

What were some of the routes your receivers were running?

The majority of the routes were corners and posts with some wheels, backside fades, digs and drags. We had some basic hitches, curls, outs, and flood concepts as well.

Which areas of your game saw the most growth throughout the nine-game schedule?

Probably my confidence; that grew the most for sure. I’ve always needed to use my legs more; this season I saw that I could do that more later in the year.

With your fundamentals and technique, what are you working on this winter and spring as a passing QB?

I am trying to get better trajectory and better spirals while working on my intermediate throws and working on my strength. I have been told that my stride is long and that I am stepping out of my base; long and off-center. This offseason I am working on that.

Are you playing 7v7 ball this offseason?

Not this spring, but our school will begin playing the last week in May/first week of June.

As that designated leader of the Tigers playing quarterback, how are you putting those skills to the test this spring bringing everyone together working towards your 2021 team goals?

Being at a small school, everyone plays multiple sports. I am not playing baseball, but the majority of the team is. Those who are not playing, we are working out together during and or after school. I have been working with the offensive linemen and with my center. The tackles have been working on their drops. I am also going down to the junior high, picking them up and working with the seventh and eighth graders. I am teaching them the playbook.

That’s really cool of you to do that, going down and helping bring the next group of Tigers along.

Thank you, sir.

Camp season is underway, have you been to any camps and/or have any camps coming up you may go compete at this spring?

I was at a camp this morning with my receiver and running back. We are at the Top 200 in Baton Rouge this morning. I am going to the QB Universe Camp in St. Louis, the Gunslinger QB Challenge in Dallas in April, and I am going to the combine/camp in Arkansas on April 24 in Little Rock with JJ Meadors (VSG, RNG, QB Impact, QB Hit List).

Adam, it was great getting time in with you today. Keep up the hard work this offseason. We will see you in Little Rock at the camp.

Thank you, sir.
