Georgia 6A teams are not liking this, but Rome High School is catching fire as the regular season is ending. The No. 9 ranked Wolves (6A MaxPreps) are 6-3 winners of four consecutive with a regular season finale scheduled against Paulding County on Friday night. The Wolves defense has been locked in all year, especially over the last four allowing an average of 7.5 points per game. And points are going up on the board with freshman Reece Fountain taking over as starer in the pocket beginning the streak. The Class of 2024 QB has thrown for 690 yards completing 65-of-98 attempts with five passing scores and one rushing touchdown in those four starts.

In an RNG catch-up interview, Fountain talks about his new role as starting quarterback with the Wolves giving insight to Rome’s playoff looks.

Interview

Reece, the Wolves are on a four-game roll with one left to play in the regular season on Friday. What’s been working for you guys during the winning streak leading to the hot hand before the playoffs?

I’d say our defense has played great. They have not been giving up a lot of points or yards. That is the main key. We are throwing the ball more too. I have four really good receivers to throw to.

Lining up with the winning streak, you’ve started the last four games. Being a freshman, how have you adapted to the speed of the game and all that is going on around you?

I am getting the ball out quicker. A lot of it is pre-snap reads, knowing where I will throw the ball.

How have you been preparing for each game this season?

Every day I watch film with my offensive coordinator. We look at the defense and how we will attack it. Every day go over it in practice to prepare.

From our last conversation, the plan was for the team to run a no-huddle Spread offense this season. How have you been fitting into the offensive set throughout the season?

We still run that. I ran that for three years in middle school, I am used to it.

With the varsity snaps under your belt, how have you been showing improvement from one game to the next?

My arm strength is No. 1. Knowing where the defense is, reading coverages, and making the defense wrong are my other areas of improvement.

What is the playoff picture like for you guys seeing Paulding County (3-6) at home?

We are the No. 2 seed regardless. But if Carrollton loses, we win we will be region champs and go into the playoffs as a No. 1 seed.

Nice. What kind of game are you expecting from the Patriots defense Friday night?

They will be ready for us. Paulding County is a good team, they beat Douglas County. They are fast, and we know that they will have a game plan for us.

Reece, any last ground to cover before we wrap?

Yes, I’d like to give a shout out to my offensive linemen and receivers, Jay Wise, Martel Hight, Martavious Collins, and DK Daniel.

Reece, thanks for your time today. Wishing you and the team success throughout the playoffs.

Thank you, sir.
