Everyone in Louisiana knows Treyvion “Trey” Holly is going to get the ball, but that has not stopped the Class of 2023 running back from rolling over defenses at a prolific rate. The super sophomore compiled over 3,100 yards and 48 touchdowns in 2020 by carrying the rock 283 times for 2,709 yards with 44 trips into the end zone and caught 12 for 172 more with two more touchdowns. On special teams, Holly was special returning 12 kicks for 301 yards with two taken back to the house and six punts for another 47. The result of the hard work helped push the Farmers to an 11-1 season with Holly (5-9, 180) taking home Outstanding 3A Offensive Player of the Year honors along with All-State, All-District, and all-everything.

Off the field, college teams are responding. Eight scholarships have been extended after Arizona State offered on Tuesday.

For insight on how Holly is using his blazing 4.4 laser-timed speed on the gridiron and which college teams are dialing in, we went into the RNG Lab for a detailed conversation.

Interview

Trey, your running style is really smooth. How would you describe your talents and abilities as a running back?

I’d say smooth wise, it really is staying at a pace, being patient, and letting the hole develop.

What offensive set were the Farmers running in 2020 and what were some of the ways the coordinator was getting the ball into your hands?

We ran an I-formation. Some of the ways were on sweeps, tosses, counters, dives, halfback passes, and screens. There were a lot of different ways they were getting the ball to me. Sometimes I went into the slot.

Your field vision and that one little plant with the foot to juke guys creates so much more yardage for you. What are some of the little things to your game that most may overlook but help you be so explosive?

Other than that, I think my speed and quickness is what gets everyone. After watching film on me, I think they think I will run from them, but I like contact. I will run towards you. That throws them off.

Not only are you fast when breaking away from the defense but your burst gets you to top speed in a hurry. What is the best-timed run you’ve put down?

On laser, a 4.4. By stopwatch, a 4.39. That was my fastest time.

Impressive.

Thank you.

You shined out of the backfield running the ball, showed all-purpose talents with your receiving, and kept setting up your offense with great field position on returns. When the 2021 season gets going, what roles are you taking on?

I want to play defense. I feel like I can show college coaches I can go on both sides. My focus is on offense, but I will play defense this season.

When your sophomore season ended, what did you start working on to take your skills to that next level for the 2021 campaign?

Getting bigger, stronger, and faster. Today, I worked on my routes. I am doing that just in case they need me in the Spread in college. I am working on it being prepared.

How are you pushing your athleticism and agility forward?

Ladder drills and cone drills. I look up how I can get faster, and work on that. I am doing a lot of footwork drills. With my footwork, you have to have good footwork for what I do.

Are you playing any other varsity sports for Union?

Yes, sir. Football, baseball, and basketball.

Nice. Let’s get into recruiting. Which schools are showing interest?

I have Twitter follows from Oregon and Florida State. Other than that, I am not sure who all else is showing interest.

How many offers do you have?

Eight.

Which program was the most recent to offer?

Arizona State; they offered today (Tuesday).

Sweet. How did Arizona State present the offer?

My head coach called me, about 10 minutes before our call. He told me this coach wants to offer you. I thought he was playing games. I asked him which college, he told me ASU; that is big. He gave me the coach’s number, I had to call him. When we got on the phone, he was asking about my family and told me to keep doing what I am doing, stay on the right path and they offered me.

Holly’s Offer Sheet: Arizona State, Arkansas, Grambling State, Kansas, Louisiana Tech, LSU, Purdue, and Utah

Nice. Through the recruiting process, what you are looking for in a school?

I am looking for a school that makes me feel like I am at home.

When visits get going this summer, are there any you’d like to go see?

All the schools that have offered me.

Trey, it was great to put the background with the guy making all the plays on the field today. I appreciate your time. Good luck with the rest of your offseason workouts until we talk again.

Thank you, sir.
