When it came to seeing No. 20 on the field for Faith Lutheran High School during the 2018 season, he was easy to find because he was key in all three phases of the game for the Crusaders. On defense playing both safety and corner, he contributed 43 stops, two tackles for a loss, broke up four passes, and finished with an eye-popping seven interceptions. When the field was flipped, he pulled in 24 balls for 189 yards with three trips to the end zone. Giving his offense better field position, he returned 19 punts for 226 yards and 19 kickoffs for 189 yards.

The college football programs that have scouted the 5-10, 165-pound athlete has come away impressed. Four offers have been extended from BYU, Northern Arizona, Portland State, and UNLV with interest brewing. Worth noting that Oliver is a hard worker in the classroom as well carrying a 3.29 GPA with an 1130 scored on the SAT.

In an RNG catch-up interview, I sat down with the three-star rated recruit covering his senior year with an update on his recruiting.

Interview

Greg, you were a great thief of passes this season with seven picks, what was your secret?

(Laughs) “My secret, a lot of film. Knowing what the offense is doing is the secret.”

At what point did the opposing teams stop throwing your way?

“Really they didn’t stop. They kept testing me, it was fun.”

The Crusaders traveled all over the region in 2018 playing a lot of very talented teams. Of all the games played, which was your best?

“Chandler (AZ).”

What did you do well against Chandler to make it your best?

“I had a lot of good key-tackles and I had a 100-yard pick-six. That was a fun game.”

Which game was a challenge for you, but made you better in the long run?

“The JSerra game. I became better from that game because of their talent level – it was good. I learned a lot in that game about me and our team.”

How did your overall skills as a corner improve during your senior year?

“I learned how to play the game better. My football IQ improved and I improved at recognizing schemes. Playing different positions, like safety, I was reading the field better.”

Is there an area of your game that might get overlooked on game film or on your highlight reel but is a strength of yours?

“My toughness and elusiveness avoiding blocks and getting off of them.”

You have four offers, which schools are showing interest but have not offered yet?

“San Diego State and Nevada.”

Have you taken any official visits yet?

“Not yet. I am planning on taking all of them in January.”

Greg, great catching up with you today. I appreciate your time.

“Thank you.”
