Call him a three-star recruit for now, but in the near future the recruiting rankings for Jahquez Robinson, much like his recruiting process, will continue to rise. The 6-2, 180-pound, cover corner was a menace to opposing Florida offenses coming up with 20-plus tackles, 10 pass breakups, and two picks for Sandalwood High School in 2018. Using his deceptively quick 4.53 speed to lockdown top receivers, the upside and impact he can bring to a collegiate program has been recognized with 20 offers extended.

In an RNG exclusive interview, I sat down with the Jacksonville area standout covering his talents on the field, overall recruiting process, and visit to Florida on Saturday with a preview of his Sunday visit with the Hurricanes.

Interview

Jahquez, your cover defense is so tight on receivers, are you making a list of which opposing players have bad breath?

(Laughs) “No.”

Understood. In all seriousness, you play on the hip and get in their faces. With your tight coverage do see guys getting upset because they cannot shake you loose?

“Sometimes they get upset and feisty. Some talking and stuff after the play, but nothing too serious.”

Which game in 2018 was your best?

“My best game, I’d say the DeLand game was my best. I had to guard Dionte Marks (Florida) in that game.”

Why do you consider it to be your best?

“Their offense was run through him. In order for us to win, we had to shut him down. My coaches put me on him, he had one catch for a few yards. That was it – no touchdowns.”

How did your overall game improve in 2018?

“I got faster as the season went on and I learned some tricks of the game. I learned and improved by playing the game. I got better at staying square, staying on top, and using my hands.”

We talked about how your game improved last season, going into the offseason what do you feel are your overall strengths to your game as a corner?

“I feel my strengths are staying square and my instincts; I can anticipate the routes. I can adjust to the receiver and play the ball.”

What are you working on this offseason?

“I am working on my off-man. I am working on playing off the receiver and breaking on routes. I am working on reading the quarterback and receiver even better.”

Are you attending any camps and/or combines coming up?

“Yes, sir. I am competing at the Under Armour All-American camp on the 10th, the Nike Opening Regional on the 24th, and I’ll be at the Adidas Three-Stripe Camp on March 10.”

Nice. I know you have a lot of offers, how many do you have now?

“I have 21 offers.”

Which schools were the last couple to offer?

“Alabama, Tennessee, Texas, and Oklahoma all offered on the same day.”

Robinson’s Offer Sheet: Florida, Georgia, LSU, Duke, Georgia Tech, Penn State, Vanderbilt, Central Florida, Florida International, Nebraska, Ole Miss, Wake Forest, Tennessee, Virginia Tech, Kentucky, Texas, Oklahoma, and Alabama

Which schools are showing interest but have not offered yet?

“I am receiving interest from Miami, Florida State, Ohio State, and Michigan.”

Have you had a chance to unofficially visit any schools from the start of the season to now?

“Yes, sir. I have visited Georgia and I am leaving a visit from Florida now.”

How did the Florida visit go?

“It went pretty good. I got to talk to some of the coaches and some old teammates of mine.”

What all did you do during the visit?

“We went to position meetings, took pictures in uniforms, and all the usual things.”

What impresses you about the program, campus and/or the facilities?

“I like their strength and conditioning coach (Nick Savage), he knows what he is doing. A friend of mine plays for Florida. Because of their strength and conditioning program, he picked up 20 pounds in no time. He looks the same but his bigger and stronger.”

How did the Georgia visit go?

“That was probably the best visit I have taken yet.”

What made the trip to Athens one of the best ones so far?

“The coaches, it felt like family there. Coach (Todd) Hartley (tight ends) interacted with me and my family a lot. The players told me it is a great place to be. The alumni base at Georgia is big.”

Do you have any planned visits upcoming?

“Yes. I am on my way to Miami now for a visit on Sunday. I am planning on going to Tennessee and Alabama. I will be at Alabama on the 16th, and I think the week before that is when I go to Tennessee; I am not sure yet. I am also going to LSU this spring. I am going to LSU on March 14-15th. I plan on taking an official to Oklahoma for their Spring Game April 12-14.”

Wow. You have a lot going on this spring. What has you excited about visiting Miami on Sunday?

“My dad is a big Miami fan. I am excited to see their facilities, talk to some of the players I know there, and talk with all their new coaches.”

Being a high-profile recruit isn’t always easy, how do you handle all of the communication with college coaches?

“I do it when I have time. I message back when I can. I wanted all of this when I was a freshman and a sophomore, I can’t get made at it now. I have to handle it one at a time and day to day.”

When you are not working out, school work, or doing a football related activity, what do you do for fun to relax?

“I am usually doing homework, talking to my dad about recruiting, or sleeping. I work out a lot, there is not much time for anything else.”

Jahquez, it was great getting time in with you today covering your workouts and recruiting process. I appreciate it. I hope your visit with Miami is a great one.

“Thank you.”
