When the 2018 high school football season had ended for Har-Ber High School, there was promise of a rising talent on the Wildcats’ roster – that talent is Errington McRae. McRae (6-3, 233) worked over 7A Arkansas competition as a sophomore utilized primarily as a blocker but scorched defenses when called upon for 189 yards off 12 receptions with two scores. Two games into his junior campaign and he has already bypassed last season with 11 passes pulled in for 210 yards and two two-point conversions; that includes a four reception 128-yard performance last time out against Russellville.

McRae has earned scholarship offers from Bowling Green and Memphis to go along with three-star recruiting status. His recruiting stock is rising with teams like Tulane, Louisville, Louisiana-Lafayette, and backdoor power Arkansas showing interest.

For a quick update on McRae’s start to the 2019 season with coverage on his weekend visit to Arkansas, I sat down for a one-on-one with the Springdale area product.

Interview

Errington, how has the 2019 season started off for you?

“So far it has been good individually. As a team we are 1-1. We are off to a good start.”

What do you feel you are doing well in the early part of the season as a tight end?

“I am catching well, getting open, being physical and blocking well.”

Which areas of your game did you work on over the offseason to prepare for the 2019 schedule?

“I worked mostly on my route running.”

Is there an area of your game that might get overlooked because it does not show up in the stat sheet?

“Not an area, but I would say my ability to get open down field is taken for granted.”

What are some of the upcoming games on the schedule you are excited to play?

“I am excited about playing Springdale, that is a big rivalry, Bentonville, and Fayetteville. Those three are big games.”

What goals have you set for the 2019 schedule?

“My goal is to give it all I have, be physical, and leave the field each time knowing I played my heart out.”

Going into recruiting. You have the offers from Bowling Green and Memphis, which schools are showing interest?

“I am receiving interest from Arkansas, Louisville, Louisiana-Lafayette, and Tulane.”

Nice. Did you visit any programs over the offseason?

“Yes. I visited Bowling Green, Memphis, Alabama, and I just visited Arkansas on Saturday for the Colorado State game.”

Tell me about the Alabama visit, if you will?

“It went very well. I got to tour their facilities and learn all about the Alabama culture. I can definitely see why they’re a winning program.”

How did the Bowling Green visit go?

“It went well. I liked it a lot. I took a small tour around the campus. I also went around the area and I got to know the coaches.”

How did the Arkansas visit go on Saturday?

“It went very well. I liked everything about it.”

Besides watching the game, what all did you do during your visit?

“I got some one-on-one time with tight ends coach, Coach (Barry) Lunney. I got a feeling for what it is like as a Razorback being on the field.”

What was something you did during the visit that made a big impression?

“The Hog Walk.”

Watching the game, what did you think of Arkansas’ offense and how they use their tight ends?

“I believe their offense is good. They picked up this week. I liked what I saw with them using the tight ends.”

Errington, always great catching up with you. Congratulations on the great start to your season and on the successful visit with the Hogs.

“Thank you.”
