Robinson High School was once again one of the top-tier programs in Arkansas’ 4A classification working to an 8-4 record with a two-game run into the playoffs. As the Senators ramped it up, so did the productivity of their junior running back and linebacker Daryl Searcy Jr. Searcy (6-0, 202) carried the rock 76 times for 365 yards with five scores and secured five passes for 36 yards. On defense he ended 30 plays with four tackles for a loss, two sacks, and a pick.

Play on the field for the three-star Class of 2022 recruit has brought in offers from Arkansas State, Memphis, and North Texas. In an RNG stylized catch-up interview, we sat down to talk about all of it.

Interview

Daryl, again, you showed that ability of putting your foot in the ground, follow your blockers, and exploding through the second level for breakaway touchdowns. In your view, how did the 2020 season go for you on the offensive side of the ball?

This year was a little rough because of the virus, not everyone could work. I put that on myself. I didn’t do as much because of the virus.

A mature viewpoint to take on the season. What offense were the Senators running in 2020?

We were running a Spread.

How were the coaches getting the ball to you?

I can run up the middle and I can run outside. That is my favorite, running outside. I was in the slot too, I like playing receiver too.

Which areas of your game grew the most on offense during the 2020 run?

I’d say my speed, most definitely my speed. When I was younger, I was slower. But as I have gotten bigger and stronger, now my speed is better. I am faster already. I ran a 40 off the winter break, I ran a 4.45. After spring break, I am going for a 4.3.

That’s awesome. Where and when did you run that?

It was last week. I ran a 4.45 at school. My coaches timed me.

Nice. Let’s go onto the other side of the ball. What scheme were the Senators running and where all were you lining up?

We ran a 4-2.

What were your responsibilities within the scheme?

B gap, looking for the cut backs, and dropping into coverage. We usually ran a zone coverage.

Where did you show the biggest improvements on that side of the ball?

Definitely with my tackling, and dropping into coverage because I am fast enough now.

With your offseason workouts, what will you focus on with your position specific skill training?

On offense, I know we will go empty some next year. I am working on receiver routes. I will practice my ball security more; ball security is the thing. On defense, I have to work on reading the ball more.

What drills or exercises have you been doing to help your speed training?

I do the Tyriq Hill (Kansas City Chiefs) workout. I do the stuff that he is doing. One of the exercises is getting on your knees and then they push you back. That works your core and hamstrings. I am also doing squats, working on my footwork, and everything I can.

Let’s get into recruiting. Which schools are showing recruiting interest?

Oklahoma and Arkansas are showing interest. I’m not really sure who all is right now.

How many offers are you holding?

Three.

Which program was the first to offer you?

Arkansas State.

When the dead period lifts, are there any visits you’d like to take?

Yes. I’d like to visit Baylor, probably Alabama, Arkansas – definitely want to go there to visit. Any college that wants me, anywhere I can play at, I will go visit.

Daryl, thanks for your time today. Keep up the hard work this offseason.

Yes, sir. Thank you.
