California is well-known for producing top skill players who matriculate onto the next level taking the college football game by storm. Another top Golden State talent continuing the trend is Class of 2020 receiver Logan Loya. Loya had a breakthrough season as a sophomore catching regional attention and followed that up with a breakout year in 2018 grabbing a national spotlight becoming a four-star recruit.

Loya has proven time and time again that he is too tough to guard one-on-one, and that is against top line national players. Coming out of the Trinity League, the 6-0, 185-pound, play-maker got time in on the field as a freshman and parlayed that experience into 68 receptions for 825 yards with 12 touchdowns in 2017. The follow up season with Orange Lutheran in 2018 was even more spectacular earning first team All-Trinity League honors with 73 receptions for 1,057 yards with 11 trips to the end zone. He even played part-time in the Lancers secondary putting an end to 20 plays with a tackle for a loss and a pick.

Pac-12 coaches have been on Loya, and the reputation he has earned is spreading to the Big 12 and SEC. With 11 offers on the table and a transfer within the last week to national powerhouse St. John Bosco, there was a lot to catch up on with Loya in an in-depth one-on-one interview.

Interview

Logan, you absolutely tore it up during your junior year with over 1,000 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns. What was working so well for you as a receiver in 2018 allowing you to be so productive?

“It was about our team and our quarterback, Ryan Hilinski (South Carolina). Ryan is good. He put it where you want it to be. Together, we pushed as a team to be better. Kyle Ford (USC) was pushing me to be better and to step up for the team when he got hurt (knee).”

Which areas of your game improved during your junior season?

“One area that improved was my run after the catch.”

You got some time in on defense in 2018, how did that go?

“I loved it. Defense is fun. It was calling – come to the dark side. (Laughs). The dark side was fun.”

When did you transfer to St. John Bosco?

“I transferred at the beginning of second semester, last Wednesday.”

It is early, but how has the transfer gone so far?

“Good. I am really enjoying it. I felt welcomed. Every has welcomed me with open arms.”

How will you be integrated or used within the Braves offense?

“I will be used wherever the team needs me. Wherever is best for the team that is where I will be. Hopefully, on the inside and outside. Whatever the coaches feel is best, that is what I will do.”

What goals have you set for yourself this offseason?

“My goals are to get bigger, faster, stronger. I am working hard on my speed. I had a good offseason last year working with my speed. I’m going full-speed with my workouts this year. I am also working on being even more physical as a receiver.”

Are you going to showcase your skills at any national camps and/or combines this spring?

“Yes I will be competing at the Nike Opening in LA (Feb. 10).”

Going into recruiting. How many offers do you have now?

“I have 10 offers.”

Which schools are showing interest but have not offered?

“USC, Washington and Washington State are showing interest.”

Did you get a chance to take any unofficial visits during the season?

“Yes. I visited Colorado, Vanderbilt, and Oregon State.”

How did the Colorado visit go?

“It was super cool. It is beautiful up there. The stadium is super cool and with the mountains in the back.”

What about Vandy, how did that visit go?

“It was super cool as well. It had a different feel, not being on the west coast. Everyone was super respectful, the coaches were cool, and they got an overtime win (vs. Ole Miss). It was a really good game to watch.”

And Oregon State, how did that go?

“It was good. It was raining but it was fun. I was there for the Oregon verses Oregon State game. It was cool. Everyone from Oregon was there. You were either wearing green or orange.”

Logan, always great catching up with you. I appreciate your time today.

“Thank you.”
