Whatever well-used phrasing for a pair of athletes who are fantastic in their given sport, that idea applies to Class of 2021 Allen High School receivers Bryson and Blaine Green. Call them the dynamic duo or the terrific two, the Green brothers have the talent to make opposing 6A Texas high school defenses pay, and that big pay day is coming in 2019.

Every season there is a wealth of high-profile players at Allen High School. The program churns out next level talent stockpiling college programs across the country, and the talent matches the play on the field. The Eagles posted a 14-1 record during the 2018 season rolling to the semifinal round of the playoffs earning an in-state No. 8 ranking, 32nd overall per MaxPreps. Any underclassman taking the field at Allen has accomplished something, posting up noticeable stats – that is another category in and onto itself. Bryson split defenses for 463 yards off 29 receptions with nine trips into the end zone while Blaine snagged 16 for 192 yards with four big scores going up on the board.

The athleticism and skillset already ingrained in the Green brothers is catching collegiate attention. Both players have size (6-2, 205), are fast, quick, and can accelerate in a heartbeat. With their size comes a physicality lost on most high school receivers. The hands are there catching it out front or high-pointing it and, something all offensive coordinators love, they are not afraid to go across the middle. The complete package that is in display has netted 18 total offers for both brothers, and all to the same programs.

In an RNG exclusive interview, I sat down with the four-star talents picking their brain on the upcoming season, their growing talents, and their recruiting process ahead of their opener against Cedar Hill (Aug. 30).

Interview

Bryson, the work put into your game this offseason is about to be displayed on Friday against what should be a very good Cedar Hill team. How pumped are you right now to get back onto the field?

“Super pumped. We have been waiting for this the whole summer to play. I thank God for the opportunity to work with the team. I have been grinding with my brother the whole summer working with our receiver coach Travis Wilson. Our team, we have put in the work for another state championship.”

What did you work on this offseason to push your game forward for your junior year?

“I ran lots of routes. I worked on getting in and out of my breaks, selling my routes, and being more patient.”

Blaine where will we see you lining up this season with the Eagles?

“We are both lining up on the outside on opposite sides of the field.”

Blaine, I am sure you worked on the same things as Bryson, but what did you focus on with your offseason workouts?

“Yes. The same things, but it is the little differences that are the most important to improve upon. The top of the route, creating space, and getting away from defensive backs. We worked on having consistent hands so our quarterback can trust us with each pass.”

Where are you seeing the improvements? Bryson, you first.

“I would say the separation in my routes and my patience. I have improved on setting the DB up in my route.”

And what about you, Blaine?

“I feel as the best part of my game right now is my separation in my routes.”

When the two of you get together covering football, how does that bond make you guys a better overall player? That has to help in so many ways sharing with each other what you are seeing and learning.

(Bryson) “It does. Outside of school, we workout all the time together. We push each other to give it our all. We are not given the next day, so we work as hard as we can to get better on each given day. Growing up, our dad had us watch videos on coverages; that set us apart from other receivers. Our older brother (Seth) went to Minnesota as a quarterback; he could read defenses really well and that has helped us. We can see the coverages and change our routes.”

Did you guys camp at any colleges this summer?

“This summer, the only camps we went to were a North Carolina camp and the showcase camp at Oklahoma State.”

Blaine, how did the UNC camp go for you?

“It was pretty unique. We had come in for a visit and we worked out with their receivers’ coach, Coach (Lonnie) Galloway. We were very thankful and surprised for the opportunity. Coach Galloway, did some basic drills with us so we could get a feel for his coaching style. We enjoyed the whole experience.”

What did you learn at either one of the camps that will help you guys going forward?

(Blaine) “We have a great receivers’ coach at our school. We heard a lot of the same things he teaches us. That reinforced what we are learning. We learned about being patient, not being tense in the route, and how to be smooth and fluid. I can tense up sometimes.”

Bryson, which schools are showing interest but have not offered?

“Alabama, Oklahoma, USC, Notre Dame, and Ohio State. Those are the ones off the top of my head I can think of now. There are a lot of schools showing interest.”

Blaine, same question for you.

“I am receiving the same interest.”

Blaine, how did you guys decide which schools you were going to visit this summer?

“This summer, we visited the schools that had offered us and the ones that had expressed interest in us. We wanted to repay the offers by visiting the schools to see our potential future options.”

A question for both of you, how many offers do you guys have now?

(Blaine) “We have 18 offers.”

Both of you?

“Yes, sir.”

The Green’s Offer Sheet: Auburn, Baylor, Colorado, Duke, Kansas, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Carolina, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss, TCU, Texas, Texas Tech, Utah, Virginia Tech, Washington, Washington State

Do you have any planned visits set for this fall?

“We will try to see most of the local schools that have offered or are showing interest. We have weekend practices, hard to go too far away. The only one on the list right now is Auburn for their game against Oregon. They were one of our first camps we went to and our dad is from Alabama.”

That will be a great game to see. Let’s finish up talking about football. This one is for both of you. When the 2019 season has been completed, what goals will you have accomplished?

(Blaine) “We expect to win another state championship. We are growing as a team, and we are growing with God. Bryson and I are getting closer to the seniors and having fun.”

How is the team looking in fall camp?

(Bryson) “We are looking good. I am excited for our first game so we can show what we have been working on this summer and in fall camp.”

For both of you. What other games are you excited to play this season?

(Blaine) “The first three games are out of district games; those games will be exciting. I am excited to win them all. I am excited to play the team from Dickinson. Honestly, I am just excited to play each Friday.”

Bryson and Blaine, I thank you for your time today and wish you and the team continued success this season.

“Thank you.”
