On a local, state, regional, or national scale, it is harder to find a Class of 2021 receiving talent more prolific and skilled going against top competition than Jack Bech. During his junior season, Bech was a first team Louisiana 4A All-State selection and is on that path again with his St. Thomas More squad off to a perfect 5-0 season.

The Cougars posted an 11-2 season a year ago beating De La Salle (New Orleans) 58-10 for the trophy. During that incredible run, their 6-2, 215-pound, receiver secured 91 passes for 1,668 yards with 20 touchdowns. Taking back nine punts, he added 202 more all-purpose yards. The 13-game receiving yard average was and incredible 128 per outing.

In stats posted through the Cougars first three games, Bech has brought down 17 passes covering 446 yards with five trips into the end zone and a 13-yard rushing touchdown on the stat sheet. His 26 yard per catch average is video game-esq along with his 149 per game receiving average.

The four-star (Rivals) recruit has 26 offers on the table with college football programs across the country targeting him. The heat has turned up a couple of notches after his announced decommitment from Vanderbilt on Oct. 28.

In another visit to the RNG Lab, Bech updates us on his senior season and recruiting process.

Interview

Jack, the Cougars have taken the field on fire this season posting blowouts and showing the team can pull out tough one-score games. What’s been working for the team so far this year leading to the 4-0 start?

Our Air Raid passing offense is prolific. We’ve upped it this year. Our quarterback (Walker Howard) is the best in Louisiana and one of the best in the nation. Our defense has been lights out, not many teams have been able to put up many points on us. If we are scoring 50 and the other team is scoring nine, we are winning.

You just mentioned the Air Raid offense. Last season you guys were running a Spread set on offense. What’s different in the set this year?

It’s the same offense, basically the same thing. We did an Air Raid last year, but this year more kids are getting the ball more. I am getting the ball, we are throwing it all over the field expanding it.

The coaches at St. Thomas had you running just about every route on the tree in 2019, which ones are you executing during your senior year?

Same, all of them.

How are defenses scheming against you this season?

A lot of double and triple teams. I have one on me, one over the top, and linebacker looking at me.

When we spoke last in the spring, then you talked about all that you were working on with your game for the 2020 schedule, including your route running. Over the spring and summer months, what did you focus on for this season?

I worked on everything, speed, strength, agility, going up for the ball. I focused on my game all-around.

What were some of the workouts you were doing to increase your top-end speed and agility in space?

I did a lot of squats and power cleans, and running. You have to run to get faster. I was doing resistance running, running stadiums, and straight running at different intervals.

Did you get a timed 40 in this spring or summer?

I did, but it was not official. I ran a 4.55.

With the four games played, where are you showing the biggest improvement in your skills on the field?

This year I have been better with the ball in my hands. I am running away from people and getting separation.

Going into recruiting. The offers keep piling in for you, how many do you have now?

I don’t know, I think I have 25.

Which programs were the last couple to offer?

Mississippi State, LSU, Texas, and TCU.

Bech’s Offer Sheet (26): Arizona, Arkansas State, Boston College, Dartmouth, Hawaii, Harvard, Houston, Liberty, Louisiana (ULL), Louisiana-Monroe, LSU, Louisiana Tech, Mississippi State, Notre Dame, Pennsylvania, Princeton, Rice, South Alabama, TCU, Texas, Texas State, Troy, Tulane, Vanderbilt, and Yale

Jack Bech’s Vanderbilt decommitment post

Are there any programs showing interest but have yet to offer?

Notre Dame.

*Notre Dame offered after this interview was conducted

Do you have any planned visits coming up?

I have been to all the places where I have received offers. When I start getting serious again, then I will start narrowing it down again. I will start thinking about that then.

After the decommitment from Vanderbilt, what is your process forward?

I have no commitment date set. I am taking it slowly right now.

Understood. When going over your recruiting and looking ahead to the next four years of your life, what are you looking for in that fit for college?

It is based on football. I want to go somewhere with a shot for national championship. I want to be somewhere where I am wanted as a person and as a football player, and at a place where the fanbase likes me

On Friday, you guys are traveling to take on Teurlings (2-2). What kind of game can the fans expect in this one?

A really good game. It is a rivalry game. They always play hard. This will be their best game of the season. We have to be ready.

*St. Thomas More won 42-19

Once the season has ended, what goals will you have accomplished?

Beating everything I did last year.

Jack, it was great catching up with you today. I appreciate your time.

Thank you, sir.
