True football fans don’t only get excited about the tough runs out of the backfield, the amazing catches by a receiver, or the big hits from a linebacker or a safety, they love seeing the action in the trenches as well. True fans of high school football in Missouri have been given a treat for viewing pleasure, and that is Class of 2021 offensive tackle Broderick “Brody” Wisecarver.

True to his name, Wisecarver is an astute player of the game carving up defenders with his technique and raw power. The 6-5, 315-pound, lineman routinely puts grass stains on the backsides of defensive tackles, ends, and linebackers finishing the play for some way before the whistle blows. His productivity with St. Louis’ DeSmet High School has garnered four offers so far, from Indiana, Iowa State, Kentucky, and Louisville, with top programs looking in on him throughout his junior season.

In an RNG exclusive interview, I got a few minutes with one of Missouri’s best learning more about his play on the field and recruiting action.

Interview

Brody, the team pounded out a 35-0 win over Hazelwood Central to start the 2019 season. How did it feel to be back on the field and get a win to kick off the schedule?

“It felt good. The way we take our games, we take them one game at a time. We only pay attention to that game. It was not any different from last year, bring on the next one lets go. But, I love being back on the field and playing again.”

When the 2018 season had ended, you were an absolute mauler of defensive linemen. What did you feel were some of the other strengths to your overall game at the end of your sophomore season?

“One of my strengths was the communication of the team. I’m not playing for me, we played as a brotherhood. That was a big strength. My timing, I got that down last season. I was blocking at a fast-pace, I would shoot early or too late, but then I got everything down.”

Which areas of your game did you work on over the offseason?

“I worked on my run blocking. I worked on my ability to step off the line faster and I got better at working my feet.”

After suiting up against Hazelwood, where are you seeing the biggest improvements in your overall game?

“My pass-pro is still one of the best parts of my game. My run blocking is more aggressive and stronger this season.”

You had a lot of them, do you happen to remember how many knockdowns and/or pancake blocks you dished out last season?

“I have no clue.”

Is there a goal for this season?

“I like to break last season’s single-game record. Last yeargainst Rock Bridge I had 15. I want to break that this year.”

Are you getting any snaps in on defense this season?

“I might, but most likely you will be seeing me only on offense.”

With recruiting, which schools are showing interest as the season begins?

“(Texas) A&M, I have been talking to them a little bit. When the Oklahoma State coach switched over, I started hearing from them more. Notre Dame has been reaching out and so has Penn State.”

How many offers are you carrying?

“I have four offers.”

Did you take any visits over the summer months?

“Yes. This summer I camped at Ohio State and Kentucky.”

How did the two camps go collectively?

“Really well actually. At Kentucky, I talked to their head coach, Coach Mark Stoops. He liked how I was playing at their camp. At Ohio State, one of the coaches was watching me during the camp. He pulled me aside and said “great job” and that he would “put in a good word” about me with the other coaches after the camp.”

Are there any visits for you coming up?

“I have two visits I will definitely take, Kentucky and Iowa State. I am trying to figure out when and when I will be visiting a few more. Michigan State is a potential and so is Texas A&M.”

Brody, I appreciate your time today and wish you and the Spartans continued success this season.

“Thank you.”
