Interview

Garrett, throwing for over 3,700 yards with 38 touchdowns against Texas 6A competition is an accomplishment. What were some of the key things you learned last season with all the experience gained that will help you going forward?

“I learned a lot, and I matured a lot. Week 1 against Bowie, I showed myself that I was still figuring everything out but as the season went on, I grew and improved. I picked it up, figured things out and kept it rolling.”

What was it that you figured out that aided in the big season?

“It was reading coverages, my pre-snap reads, and coming up to the line seeing where I can attack. Another year in this offense helped – I was making faster reads.”

Since the season ended, what have you been working on with your skills as a quarterback?

“The same things as last season, getting stronger, getting faster, and getting bigger. I am hitting the weight room harder. I am working to keep my release clean, get better, and to become more knowledgeable.”

Are you doing anything differently this offseason to prepare for your senior year?

“Last offseason I did not run track, but I am running track this offseason doing all the workouts. I am working to take my game to the next level.”

How is the 7v7 season going?

“It is going well. I am playing with Texas Flex, a Dallas based team. We are the top team in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. I don’t think there is one guy on the team without an offer. It has been fun building relationships with all the guys.”

Do you guys have any upcoming tournaments?

“Yes. We are in Houston this weekend; I will be there on Sunday.”

Are you competing at any national camps this spring?

“I will be at all the national camps; Rivals, Under Amrour, and the Elite 11.”

With recruiting, how many offers do you have now?

“30.”

Nussmeier’s Offer Sheet: Arizona State, Arkansas, Baylor, Boise State, Boston College, Colorado, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Kansas, Louisville, LSU, Miami, Michigan State, Mississippi State, Missouri, North Carolina, North Texas, Oklahoma State, Oregon State, Penn State, Purdue, SMU, South Carolina, Texas, TCU, Texas State, UTSA, Vanderbilt, Wake Forest, and Washington State

Which schools have you visited recently?

“I was at Baylor last weekend and I visited TCU earlier this year. I will be visiting LSU on Saturday.”

Nice. How did the TCU trip go?

“It went great. TCU has a great staff. I have a good relationship with them. TCU is a cool place.”

And the Baylor visit last weekend, how did that go?

“It was awesome. Baylor is a cool place; I had been there before. This visit was different with an offer in-hand.”

Circling back to the LSU visit, what has you excited about being in Baton Rouge again?

“I am excited to talk to Coach O (Ed Orgeron), Coach (Scott) Linehan (passing game), and Coach (Scott) Callaway (analyst). I am excited about building that relationship with Coach (Scott) Ensminger (OC).”

Do you have any planned official or unofficial visits coming up?

“I will not take an unofficial visit until I am committed.”

The college football world is waiting in anticipation for April 18 with your announcement. Is that still a target date for you?

“That is the plan, but it is not concrete.”

Are you going to drop a top schools list ahead of your commitment?

“No.”

For the school that receives your commitment, what will that school have the comprises an ideal fit for you?

“To be honest, I want a place that will develop me overall. I want to be a better person and a better football player when I step foot off the campus. The other thing is enjoying life on campus.”

Garrett, it was great catching up with you today. Good luck with your upcoming 7v7 tournaments and with your visit to LSU this weekend.

“Thank you.”
